On the latest episode of About That Time, we sat down with Atlanta’s own Drumma Boy, and it got real… real quick! We dove right in to heavy topics like the loss and the legacy of his brother, Insane Wayne, and how he is driven to create as a means to build an authentic connection with his audience. He also credits cannabis for opening the pathway that leads to the universal human experience, which allows for Drumma Boy and his fans to relate. Despite this incredible loss, he chooses to maintain that his life is blessed.

He has been connected with some of the all time greats who created that unmistakable ATL sound which has shaped the future of hip hop, such as T.I., Migos, Outkast, Gucci Mane, Waka and Jeezy just to name a few. He has also teamed up with famed southern innovators from his birthplace of Memphis such as Three-Six-Mafia and Gangsta Boo. However, his love for music did not start in the club, it first came to life as a toddler when he took up his first wind instrument. He hails from a family full of musicians including his father, a professional clarinetist, his mother an opera singer, and many of his extended family members played music as well. He is still extremely close with his entire family, and takes time to cherish each one of them. We also got to hear the true story behind Drumma’s catch phrase, and club anthem, “Listen to this track, b”.

He puts great emphasis on being a positive role model for those coming up in the game. When asked what advice he had for artists trying to break into the industry, Drumma replied, “Digital assets”. In today’s industry people can get on playlists, and get their music out there without having to have the money to press physical copies to get them out there.
