Today (March 7th) marks the anniversary of the passing of one of the most influential rappers in Hip-Hop history. The Notorious B.I.G. was coined the ‘King of New York’ early in career, and still after 14 years his legacy continues to live on through music and archives. Jadakiss, who was one-third of the then popular Hip-Hop group The LOX, remembers the life and times of Biggie and was proud to say that he was a labelmate to one of the greats during his rookie years under Bad Boy.

14 years later, the Yonkers Emcee humbly reminisces about that moment in time when Biggie graced his birthday bash during his tenure at Bad Boy Entertainment. It was apparent that having Biggie grace your birthday bash was more than any guest verse on any track, as matter of fact it was an honor.

Jadakiss spoke with MTV News about the remembrance of B.I.G. and the honor it was for him to have ‘King of New York’ at his party.

These were his comments:

“We were still new at Bad Boy, so we used to play our part, we were real humble. We wouldn’t ask for too much or none of that. But I remember thinking I needed Big to come to my birthday party. I was having my birthday party uptown at a spot called Mo Better. When the moment was right, I was like, ‘Yo, Big, I’m having a birthday this and that, think you could come through for me? Come through right quick?’”

“That took all, for me to build up that energy to ask. It was amazing and he was like, ‘When?’ I said, ‘Tomorrow.’ He said, ‘Yeah, I’mma be there and chill with you.’”

Jada remembers being nervous, but either way kept the invite on the low. Later on that night, B.I.G. and Lil Cease pulled up to his party in a Lexus truck.
“He chilled with me all night, popping bottles, chilling. I said, ‘This is amazing.’ The points I scored with Y.O. that night was incredible. Dudes were coming up to him, amazed that it was him. He was passing out champagne and cigars, I said, ‘I’m the man right now. I got Big at my party. I’m chilling.’”

And I bet Jada would have loved to have that ‘moment for life,’ I know I would. We will always love Big Poppa!
