The Hustle Hard captain returns with the third single from his much anticipated major label debut “If Tomorrow Comes.” Yes, it’s Maino, he’s one of those rappers that’s supposed to “bring New York back.” The only difference between he and his NY counterparts is that HE actually has a chance. This is single number three for the BK native who was first introduced to us by long time collaborator and friend Lil’ Kim. Three singles before the album drops is unheard of in this climate where record companies want the artist to already have marketed themselves. The Atlantic Records rapper must be on someone’s good side, because they are doing all but buying the album themselves. Maino’s first single was the official summer banga of last year, spawning more remixes than Lil’ Wayne’s got features. Hi Hater peaked at 16 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks Chart, and 26 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, a pretty impressive accomplishment for a first time out from an artist who was virtually unknown on the national scene. 2nd time around Maino upped the ante with All The Above. The Just Blaze produced single featured the hit friendly T-Pain on the hook and did it’s job, giving the Brooklyn rep an appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and the Billboard Pop 100. Now Mr. Hustle Hard is back and feelin’ like a Million Bucks!
If the beat sounds familiar its because Snoop used the same sample in a Scott Storch produced song called Let it Rain. However, Swizz Beatz takes it to the next level adding enough synths and signature Swizzy bounce to make the most laid back thug wanna do a two step. And the video is equally energetic, showin’ the newly successful Maino’s appreciativeness to the hood that made him who he his. Similar to scenes in “American Gangster,” we see Maino givin’ back to the community and handing out presents. It runs with the theme of the hook where Swizz spits, “ I think I might give away a million bucks/I think I might give away a brand new truck/ Cause I feel good, yeah feel good…”
Maino lets us know where he’s from and that he’s proud of it. East New York is definitely in the building with cameos from Uncle Murda of Rocafella and Rock of Heltah Skeltah(Duck Down). New York came out to support its newest home town hero, Red Café of Bad Boy/ Konvict Music was out, and of course Swizzy was came through for his part, even Jay Price of “The Wire” was out to support the New York movement. Maino is back again, and with the June 30th release of his album “If Tomorrow Comes” approaching, he is NOT playing games.
