Miami, FL – Every single year Miami is the forefront of Memorial Day Weekend within the music industry and this year was the pinnacle of the reason behind that. Quite possibly almost every major Hip-Hop and R&B artists was down in the dirty for a three day weekend amongst literally thousands of fans that came down here from across the nation to party amongst the stars. South Beach was jam packed with people from different corners of the nation and quite possibly the world. Every single club in the South Beach area promoted their own top of the line shows that catered to many, many fans.

Between clubs like Sobe Live and Dolce hosting the biggest party of the year practically the idea on all their minds and in fact all of their parties came close to that mark. Their lineup was something fantastic as they provided events for the entire three day gala.

Sobe Live provided their set of entertainment with a collection of artists and athletes performing on their infamous stage that has been known to cater to several heavyweight artists in the industry today. On the opening Friday night, the GS Boyz graced the stage at Sobe Live and performed their hit single ‘Stanky Leg’ that has created a huge buzz amongst the club heads. The Boss of Miami, Rick Ross, and the Core DJs lit up the club that won VH1’s best venue on Saturday; it was evident Ross had to make his presence felt in his city. When it comes to the ladies, Sobe has always been able to do it big and it never fails as Sunday Night brought on the talents of Trey Songz to the stage all just for the women that we love. And on Monday, the last day fans didn’t want to see so quickly, Uncle Luke alongside porn star extraordinaire Roxy Reynolds hosted the event to end all events with their anything goes Freakfest.

The classy Dolce made their presence felt with their own line up starting with Poe Boy’s 10 year anniversary blast with a collection of artists making cameo appearances to the event. The whole Poe Boy roster hit the stage and provided an amazing set for their fans from across the nation. Brisco, Billy Blue, Flo Rida, Ballgreezy, Trick Daddy, and David Lyn set the stage on fire doing what they do best. On Saturday, veteran artist Busta Rhymes made his own scene as he attended his phenomenal Album Release party for his recent LP ‘Back on My B.S.’ Opening up live for Busta was Black Dada, Redd Eyezz, and F.A. And on Sunday night, Plies headlined a huge event for his fans providing his own huge blowout for the celebrated weekend.

During the passing weekend, the clubs weren’t the only venues holding events in the city, another annual event hosted to a mass audience was held at the Bicentennial Park in Downtown Miami. The Best of the Best 2009 Jamaican Festival was quite possibly the highlight of the Memorial Day weekend as thousands upon thousands were in attendance for the event with a plethora of Reggae and Hip-Hop artists. Artists ranged from Buju Banton to Beenie Man, Bounty Killa to Capleton, Serani, Cocoa Tea, and Wayne Wonder. Hip-Hop artists even included Rick Ross, Magazeen, Young Jeezy, T-Pain, Ace Hood, and DJ Khaled. A review that spectacular show will be up shortly, look out for that.

All in all, this year’s Memorial Day weekend was quite interesting and with the huge amount of people that flocked to Miami this year, the quantity speaks for itself. Either way, we look forward to next year as each year that passes brings more and more interesting events to attend. I’m certainly looking forward to Best of the Best 2010, because honestly, this being my first year, it was truly a grand event that opened my eyes to wider range of Reggae as an art as well as music, shout outs to Rhona Fox for that.
