After much controversy dealing with the “Every Girl” performance took place at the 2009 BET Awards, sources close to both Lil Wayne and Drake’s camp finally speak out about the incident stating that the presence of the pre-teens was unplanned.

In fact, a source in former Xscape member and T.I.’s alleged new bride Tiny’s camp has said that it was a last minute decision. Apparently Wayne’s daughter Reginae was on the brink of tears and Wayne agreed that she could come out on the stage with her friends.

According to Sandra Rose:

“According to my source, what happened was Wayne’s daughter Reginae, 9, was upset that she didn’t get the chance to accompany her father, Lil Wayne, to the stage to accept his award because she was sitting too far back in the audience. Once backstage, the youngster began to cry. And Wayne, who they say is a great dad, hated to see his little girl cry. So he told Reginae she could come out onstage during his performance with Drake. Reginae, being the team player that she is, asked the other members of her group to go out on stage with her.”

I understand his decision as a father, however I still believe it was in poor taste due to the song choice. She was sitting too far back to go onstage with him to receive the award but not too far back to make it back stage and eventually onstage for the performance? I guess baby girl just got pull huh? Children are going to cry to get their way, that’s what they do. That doesn’t mean that you let them have their way all the time, but to each his/her own.  It’s a Catch-22. Either way, someone wouldn’t have been pleased.

While sources have confirmed this story, Lil Wayne and Drake have yet to comment on this situation.

VIBE Magazine Closes Doors

It’s a sad day in Publication History! After over a decade of publication, New York’s Gawker.com has confirmed that VIBE Magazine has recently closed its doors.

For those who don’t know, VIBE was founded in 1993 by the infamous music/entertainment mogul Quincy Jones. The magazine was known to many in the industry as the “black Rolling Stone.” This periodical has reportedly had a circulation of over 800,000 and has had famous icons like Eminem, Lil Wayne, Ciara, Chris Brown, Kanye West, and even Barack Obama to grace its cover.

Recently according to the magazine’s veteran Editor-In-Chief Danyel Smith, there had been many layoffs, salary cuts, and circulation drops prior to the closing of the magazine.

First Michael Jackson, Now Vibe??!!

According to NME.Com, the ownership rights were purchased by Wicks Media Group in 2006. Quincy Jones has recently stated that he refuses to let the magazine cease.

I’m trying to buy my magazine back now,” he told Ebonyjet. “They just messed my magazine all up, but I’m gonna get it back. You better believe it, I’m’a take it online because print and all that stuff is over.”

VIBE has yet to comment on the closing of this prestigious magazine or whether or not they will choose to let the brand remain online. However Jones says that he will try his best to insure that the publication remains online because it’s more profitable than print.

“We gotta get into the 21st century you know,” Jones said. “Print and all that stuff is over, we gotta remember that. They’re over the same way as the record business. We have got to get into this century.”

As we all know, online is the future and I’m sure that VIBE would continue to flourish there. Well hopefully Jones can indeed save this magazine. Good Luck!
