Singer and Kovict Muzik’s Akon recently revealed how Grammy Award winning pop star Lady Gaga signed to his KonLive imprint at Interscope Records. “She’s pretty much retired me,” Akon said regarding his “super megastar” who has gained four consecutive top 10 singles and consecutive #1 hits. In the statement Akon also speaks on how Gaga will help bridge both pop and hip-hop together as well as how he initially stumbled upon her when she was on the verge of being dropped from Interscope.
“I think what everybody else didn’t,” Akon said about Gaga. “She had went through like four or five labels. When I closed my deal at Interscope, she was getting dropped that week … they was dropping her again. I was like ‘Yo, I wanna sign that right there.’ Jimmy [Iovine] was like ‘Yeah, whatever you want, take her. Let’s get it done.’ She’s blossomed into a super-mega star. She’s pretty much retired me. She was definitely a blessing. She came at the right moment. I’m glad I believed in her, boy. That goes to show, if you believe in something good — it will pay off.”
Looks like Lady Gaga signed Akon straight until retirement. The two are said to be releasing a collaboration track on Akon’s upcoming album “Stadium.”
Lil Wayne Shoots Several Music Videos Before Going to Prison
In anticipation of his jail sentence, it has been reported that Lil Wayne has completed a handful of music videos for the Young Money compilation, Rebirth, and Wayne’s forthcoming album Tha Carter IV. According to Cash Money Records co-founder, Baby, Wayne has already completed nearly 30 music videos.
“He’s shooting ‘Da Da Da,’ ‘Ghetto Life’ and two Carter IV videos,” Baby revealed to radio personality Tim Westwood. “We shooting two Father Son videos — Nicki Minaj, Tyga, Mack Maine, everybody. We shooting like 20, 30 videos just to have in the can for while he’s gone…[When Wayne goes,] it’s a sad day for hip-hop, period. But we won’t lose anything, you know, it’s personal as far as us, to a fan, it’s just something else. But it’s a family situation for us but we’re ready for it, built for it and we just gonna rock and roll until my son gets home…This is what we do, music is our hustle and I think we got the most solid click in the business, with Young Money, Cash Money and the energy that Wayne bring, everybody knows he’s the super star, the mega star of the universe. It’s nothing without junior.”
Looks like we won’t be missing very much of Wayne at all. There is no word as to when exactly the videos will drop. We will definitely keep all you Weezy fans posted.
Rapper Freeway Gives His Two Cents on the Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel Beef
In an interview, rapper and former Roc-A-Fella artist Freeway, openly discussed the recent dispute between Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel. Freeway revealed his thoughts regarding their conflict and believes that through all of the beef, the two still have love for each other. Speaking from a neutral point of view, Freeway had this to say in regards to the former friends:
“I’m cool with Jay; I’m cool with Beans,” he explained in an interview. “I felt as though we could have gotten a bigger push for the albums that we dropped [in 2007], but I don’t feel no type of way about it. I’m just working; I’m not sitting around complaining. Beans was on the Roc before me, he was the person that brought me there. Him and Jay had a deeper relationship than I did. Obviously there had to be some kind of buildup, ’cause I know Beans love Jay. I know he do. He got to. All the things they been through together. I mean, I can’t complain about Jay at all. He gave me that first major co-sign. That first co-sign was enough for me. I don’t got nothing bad to say about him.”
A lot of people can definitely agree with that statement, is this just a little dispute between two friends? Freeway seems very concerned about his friends but will this actually be enough to dead the beef between Beans and Jay? Who knows. Hopefully the two will end the beef soon. Do we hear a make-up collaboration in the near future? That may be
Stay tuned!
