Last year there was a much hyped video of Akon tossing a fan off the stage at a summer concert. There was so much speculation as to who the fan was, if it was staged, and what would happen to Akon if it was real. Well yesterday a few questions seem to have been answered about the incident.
First off it was real. The man whom Akon tossed off stage has refused to have his identity leaked to the press but did press charges. The initial charges were endangering the welfare of a minor, which is a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment. However the charges were reduced to just harassment after the prosecution reviewed the tape and determined the fan was being unruly and shouldn’t have been on the stage.
Due to these circumstances Akon basically got a slap on the wrist. The singer took a plea deal which will allow him to skate on jail time and instead perform menial tasks. Akon will have to perform 65 hours of community service and pay an account crushing $250 fine. Akon nor his attorneys were available at press time for comment.
This court win comes right on the heels of another #1 debut by Akon for his latest album Freedom, which features label mate T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy and others.
