The three-day ASCAP event, scheduled for April 20 to April 22 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, is currently the first and only national conference on songwriting and composing. "Some of the biggest names in music have already signed on for what will be the most important conference ever developed for music creators," ASCAP CEO John LoFrumento said via statement.

With conference panels and workshops covering nearly every genre of music, attendees can expect to receive advice on many aspects of the industry, including how to place music in TV, film, advertising and videogames. Other special events include performances, listening sessions and a screening of the new satirical film American Dreamz, which pokes fun at the television hit "American Idol."

Hip-Hop and R&B will both play a major role in the "I Create Music" conference. In addition to genre specific panels, on April 21 DJ Quik will hold a workshop using music software and hardware from Apple to show how he’s built his career as a writer, rapper and producer. Grammy-award winning singer and songwriter Jill Scott is scheduled for a Master Session on April 22 and MC Lyte, Kandi Burruss, Goapele and Solange Knowles will team up for the Q&A roundtable "Ladies First: Changing the Culture of R&B & HipHop" which has been billed as a career building workshop. Akon, Lyfe, Timbaland, and producer Jimmy Jam (Janet Jackson) are also featured panelists.
