According to reports from Detroit Local Channel 4, B.G., whose real name is Christopher Dorsey, was arrested last Sunday on the Lodge Freeway, near Southfield, MI. Troopers say they found a concealed weapon inside Dorsey’s vehicle. Reportedly his charges include possession of a firearm and drug possession.
In response to these local news reports, the following statement was released from Chopper City Records on behalf of B.G.:
“For the multi-platinum New Orleans native who relocated to Detroit before the Hurricane Katrina devastation and now calls the Motor City his second home, the way the story has been misconstrued is a surprise. The local media reported “drugs” in the car, however, the police report shows a very small amount of marijuana was found in the search after B.G. was arrested.”
An attorney for B.G which stands for Baby Gangsta, Marlon Blake Evans, ESQ, added the following comments on behalf of his client, “B.G. was stopped for driving a car with tinted windows, but he was held for driving with a suspended license and traffic tickets. Due to B.G.’s previous substance abuse, it is important to clarify that the police report verifies that no hard drugs found in my client’s vehicle.”
At one time Dorsey was the youngest artist signed to Cash Money Records. He released his debut LP TRU Story in 1992. His 1996 release Chopper City sold 100,000 copies independently, and he is probably best known for his Chopper City in the Ghetto LP which included the colossal hit “Bling Bling.” In 2001 B.G. left Cash Money and signed an independent deal for his Chopper City label with Koch Records.
B.G. has struggled with heroin addiction in the past and in 2001 he sought out help at a drug treatment program in Minnesota. He released an album earlier this year titled The Heart of Tha Streetz. According to reports G-Unit South (Cashville Records) have been in talks about signing the rapper, yet nothing has materialized as of yet.
According to the statement released by Chopper City Records, B.G. has been clean for nearly three years and is currently working on an upcoming album, The Heart Of The Streets: Vol. 2 (I Am What I Am) to be released March 21, 2005. The statement from Chopper City indicated that B.G. should be released by Christmas Eve.
