305djs: For people that don’t know you, you’re Bigg D, a very popular producer. Tell us a little about yourself?
Bigg D: I just do this music thing. You know. I like to keep it simple and do the music.
305djs: What made you get into music. How long have you been doing it?
Bigg D: All my life.
305djs: When did you start?
Bigg D: When I was a kid. I play about 4 or 5 instruments.
305djs: What instruments do you play?
Bigg D: Drums, keyboard, guitar, you know. Bass guitar. For the most part, I’ve been doing music all my life.
305djs: What made you want to produce instead of being an artist?
Bigg D: Well, I’ve always been around production. I always wanted to produce. I’m actually getting ready to do the artist thing as well. I’m going to come out with an album next year. I have fun producing for a long time.
305djs: What was one of the first songs that you did that got recognition?
Bigg D: Trick Daddy ‘Let’s Go.’ Me and Jim Jonsin were partners. The big record was ‘Unpredictable’ by Jamie Foxx. What put us on the map really was the Pretty Ricky album. The list goes on.
305djs: Are you originally from Miami?
Bigg D: Yes I am.
305djs: So you have worked with everyone that is from here.
Bigg D: Yes
305djs: Is there anyone that you haven’t worked with?
Bigg D: Not really. I worked with everybody [that is] from here.
305djs: Is there anyone in general that you haven’t worked with that you would like to work with?
Bigg D: You know I wouldn’t mind working with Janet [Jackson]. I wouldn’t mind working with Mariah [Carey]. I really want to work with some different type of artists like Brittany [Spears] or Jessica [Simpson] or Christina Aguilera. I kinda wanna work with Christina. Kinda change the script.
305djs: How do you feel about the whole Miami Movement?
Bigg D: It’s incredible. It’s been a long time coming. I can say it’s about time. Now let’s see what we can do with this opportunity as far as bridging the gap amongst us as brothers here. We can be blessed with this success that God has given us now, now let’s see what we’re going to do with it. Are we still going to be distant from each other, not work together? My thing is that I’m happy for everybody, but now I want to see what everybody does with this little success and power that we each have.
305djs: Everyone knows you were part of Unusual Suspects with Jim Jonsin, Is there a reason you two don’t work together anymore?
Bigg D: Just differences. He had his thing I had mine. Like I say in all my interviews, me and Jim didn’t really have problems. It was the people around us that used me and Jim situation for their own gain. That’s how I feel. It wasn’t me and Jim. We were the creative ones. The people around us, they really didn’t have talent but they ate off of our success and everything that we created. They found a way to make it benefit them more and better gain them, so they used that.
305djs: Will you two work in the future?
Bigg D: Yes. I would say we will. I’m happy doing what I’m doing.
305djs: What projects are you currently working on?
Bigg D: I’m actually working on Teedra Moses’ album. Working on 8 Ball & MJG. I’m actually working on my new group I got coming out called Rock Bottom. I’m working on my personal project. Got a couple things. Getting ready to work with Puff. Do some things with him. Rolling Stones. Quite a few people.
305djs: Since you are a producer, do you have your own label or production company?
Bigg D: Yea. Got my own company. It’s called Dadetown Records.
305djs: Do you have any other artist besides Rock Bottom?
Bigg D: It’s gonna be Rock Bottom. My own personal project. We still signing different artists and looking for different artist. I want something that is always different and special. Everybody got the same type of thing. I never want to be a trend follower, I always want to set the trend. It’s called Dadetown Records.
305djs: Is there anything you want to promote?
Bigg D: Yea. I just really want to promote this new group I got coming on the scene called Rock Bottom and the new music that I got coming.
