Bobby Shmurda has been in jail since last December as he awaits trial on a number of serious felonies along with several members of his GS9 crew. With the issue of his bail not being paid by his record label recently being brought up, the Brooklyn rapper hopped on the phone with Hot 97’s Ebro to set the record straight.

According to the “Hot Nigga” rapper, he must pay the full bail amount in order to be freed before trial. Typically, an individual is only required to pay 10 percent. As for his contact with L.A. Reid and Epic Records. “I aint get in contact with them in a long time,” he says.

Shmurda also claims the judge attempted to up his bail amount recently. “They tried to raise it to $2.5 [million] last time I went to court,” he says. “These people in New York not playing with us right now. Young black kids, young kids period. They are trying to make an example. They trying to take 80 years out my life right now.1”

Epic exec L.A. Reid recently broke his silence, after being called out in the media for not bailing out his incarcerated employee. In an interview on the RapRadar podcast, Reid said, “People don’t know anything about my business. It’s really not their business. That’s the truth about it, right? We’re not elected officials here, and we’re not at liberty to disclose how we do business. It’s fair practice. I can tell you that.”

He went on to compare Shmurda’s financial production to Snoop Dogg’s legal issues in the early ’90s: “Bobby Shmurda is not the same as Snoop Dogg and ‘Murder Was the Case,’ who’s coming off The Chronic and [Doggystyle].” He added, “It’s a different era, you know? And we’re a publicly held corporation. We just aren’t in the same position we were in back in those days so it’s a different day.”
