Breaking news has been buzzing all over the media and the internet that the pop soulstress Whitney Houston has passed away. She reigned as pop music’s queen until erratic drug use took a toll on her amazing voice and eventually her career. She was 48.

Her publicist Kristen Foster told the Associated Press Saturday afternoon that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unknown.

Not only was Houston a pop idol, she will also be remembered as an actress with films such as ‘Waiting to Exhale’ and, of course, ‘The Bodyguard,’ which she acted alongside that of Kevin Costner.

Update: 9:01 PM CNN reports that earlier today emergency was called to the Beverly Hilton hotel. Whitney was treated with life saving resuscitation were performed, but it was too late. Family, friends and coworkers positively identified her body.
