In celebration of their 15th anniversary the Grammy Awards
Academy is sponsoring a five city tour in which both major hip hop and R&B
acts will perform. Sean Kingston,
Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, and Pitbull
are just a few of the acts the Academy has set to perform. The tour will
make stops in the cities of Chicago, New York, Miami, Dallas and Los Angeles,
with the kick off happening in Chicago tonight, April 3.
Tickets to the tour are limited and are only being offered
through radio giveaways and the like. The reason for the tour is to celebrate
the history of the Grammy’s and bridge the gap between two musical generations
as expressed in this statement by Evan Greene, Chief Marketing Officer of The
Recording Academy: “With this fantastic program, not only does The
Recording Academy provide music fans an opportunity to help celebrate our 50th
Anniversary, it also pays tribute to some of the artists that have played an
important role in the Grammy Awards’ meaningful history and gives rising stars
a chance to be a part of that legacy.”
Hmm…this is interesting to me. Isn’t this the same Academy
that banned Hip Hop and denounced the art form as recently as like what 5 years
ago? I remember when Jay and all them boycotted those shits not too long ago,
now their all on Hip Hop’s dick. Whatever I guess as long as their cutting
checks but it’s just funny how it seems like they need us now. Things done
changed huh?
