New Orleans rapper C-Murder has been entangled in a murder case for the better part of the last 6 years. He was convicted of shooting 16 year old Steve Thomas inside a Louisiana nightclub in 2003 but later won an appeal and the conviction was overturned.  The reasons for the conviction being overturned is that the state bribed witnesses and also made them appear more credible by having their criminal records expunged.

Murder, real name Corey Miller, was set to go back to trial for the murder after the state continued to press the issue. However a recent  election upset the process and now it looks like it could be months before the trial resumes. Judge Martha Sassone was defeated in the November 4 runoff for judge in the 24th Judicial District Court and she has been the judge that has resided over Miller’s cases. Her replacement is Ellen Kovach who openly criticized Sassone and the way in which she handled Miller’s trial. Kovach says that Sassone was too easy on Miller and also stated openly to the press that Miller is “getting away with much more than murder”

Due to these comments Miller’s lawyer Ron Rakosky had the trial delayed due to the fact that potential jurors could be tampered now due to Kovach’s ignorant comments. She also was reprimanded by the state Judicial Campaign Oversight Committee for the statements due to the obvious fact that she could be the judge presiding over Miller’s case. However since she has won the election Kovach has stated she will not preside over Miller’s case due to her comments.

There is no word on yet on how long it could possibly be before the trial resumes but it looks to be at least three months. If convicted Miller will face a mandatory life sentence for the murder.
