Denver Nuggets player Carmelo Anthony and MTV Veejay Alani
“La La” Vazquez welcomed the arrival of their son, Kiyan,
at 1:35 p.m. today (Mar. 7) at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado.
Kiyan weighed in at 5 lbs., 9 oz and was 18 inches long. Sources said that Vasquez
is resting comfortably with Anthony and her immediate family by her side. Anthony,
22, and Vasquez got engaged on Christmas Day in 2004.
On December 16, 2006, Anthony was one of many players involved in a fight between
New York Knicks players and his Denver Nugget teammates during a game at Madison
Square Garden. Anthony punched Knicks player Mardy Collins
in the face and was subsequently suspended for 15 games. On February 2, 2007,
Anthony and fellow teammate J.R. Smith were in a car accident,
but neither player was injured.
The good news comes amongst other controversy surround Anthony, as Denver
Nuggets coach George Karl has threatened to bench the All-Star
Forward, for not showing enough maturity on the court. "I think that’s
the next move," Karl told the Denver Post, citing Anthony’s lack of contribution
since his suspension. "I’ve told Melo in the last two weeks, ‘I don’t think
you’re listening. I don’t think you’re listening as well as you need to listen.’
For me, the next step is to change the democracy back to a dictatorship."
The Nuggets have also struggled since pairing Anthony, who leads the league
in scoring with an average of over 30 points per game, with former Philadelphia
76er, Allen Iverson. "Personally, I think Melo should forget about scoring,"
Karl said.
