It’s quite interesting how a very known actor who was predominant throughout the 80’s, 90’s, and even now in Hollywood can open up a twitter account and become a sensation in literally 48hours. Charlie Sheen has decided to finally open his own twitter account after many of his celebrity have done so years before. In what has become major news amongst bloggers and media outlets alike, Sheen has apparently been able to attract close to a million followers in less than a day.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Sheen contacted one of his friends and stated that he would like to create a twitter account, but didn’t know how to go about doing so. In turn, his friend contacted Ad.Ly, a small marketing start up firm out Beverly Hills that focuses on celebrity endorsements through Facebook and Twitter. Ad.Ly’s celebrity team contacted Twitter and secured Sheen’s verified account; they then spent a couple of hours on the phone with Sheen explaining to him Twitter tools like how to use hashtags, bit.ly, and twit pic.
CEO of Ad.Ly, Arnie Gullov-Singh recently spoke to Forbes Magazine about Charlie Sheen’s request for a personal twitter account and what their involvement was in assisting him. These were his comments:
“Charlie said he wants to communicate directly with his fans and bypass the media. He was focused and really excited about communicating directly with his fans, he had seen other celebrities join Twitter and he realized it was the best way for him to tell his side of the story directly to his audience. He’s been posting pictures, that’s really helped. The first picture he’s posted has been viewed over a million times already. I think we are about 24 hours into the life of Charlie Sheen’s Twitter account and he has 900,000 followers. I’ve never seen growth from zero to 900K in 24 hours. We really didn’t think he’d have 900K followers in 24 hours. It’s inevitable that brands will be lining up to work with him. That time will come sooner rather than later.”
Sheen didn’t bother wasting any time; he posted his first Tweet on Tuesday afternoon: It was a photo featuring him and one of his girlfriends holding chocolate milk and Naked Juice with a message that read, “Winning..! Choose your Vice…”
Later that day, he tweeted to his fans that he passed on an interview with Nancy Grace stating: “I’d rather go on a long road trip with Chuck Lorre in a ’75 Pacer….” At one point in time, guess out boredom or curiosity posted tweeted: “Questions..? I’m here for my people..! Bring it!!” Inquiring to his fans that he’d answer anything they throw at him.
At press time, news reports within the entertainment have been blazing back and forth about Sheen as the top TV show that he headlines, ‘Two and a Half Men,’ recently ceased production of the entire eighth season after he made verbal attacks at the producer and lead writer of the series on ‘The Alex Jones Show.’ Before then, Sheen was the highest paid actor on network television making a whopping $1.8 million per episode.
