One of Hip Hop’s most popular and controversial record labels is set to re-launch. According to several sources, Death Row Records is set to reemerge with the help of E1 Entertainment, formally known as Koch Records. Other artists involved with E1 include Trick Trick, Keith Murray, Jim Jones and Fat Joe.
Death Row was created in 1991 by Dr. Dre and Suge Knight and was formerly home to some of the greatest and best known rappers on the West Coast including 2pac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt and Daz Dillinger. This label has been amidst some of Hip-Hop’s greatest controversies, and even the center of the fatal “East Coast West Coast Beef”which is said to have lead to the unfortunate deaths (unsolved) of two of Hip Hop’s greats Notorious B.I.G and 2pac Shakur. Nonetheless, this label has produced some of the most classic albums ever created but with the arrival of a new decade, financial issues, and the continuous constant legal troubles surrounding the label, Death Row slowly faded into a distant memory.
On April 18, 2009, the Death Row unreleased music sampler is set to arrive in stores. This day was picked due to it being “Record Store Day” which is a national event specifically focused towards celebrating both independent music and retailers. The music from Death Row is said to be comprised of a three-track exclusive sampler and with include Crooked I’s “Hoodstar,” “Pay for the P***y” by Petey Pablo and “Do What You Do” from Danny Boy.
Well hopefully this will be a good look for one of Hip Hop’s most interesting labels. Let’s see if they are able to bring back both the creative genius and the momentum that they created back in the early 90s .
Gunplay Shoots Back At 50 Cent
So apparently 50 is not done with firing shots. After the highly noted beef with Rick Ross, and taking shots at both T.I. and Lil Wayne, you’d think that he’d be done. He recently posted a video of Gunplay of The Triple Cs, laid out after a fight. Gunplay is a friend of Rick Ross, and was easily his next target. According to sources, Gunplay was talking tough on some footage about 50Cent, and 50 shot back with this old footage of Gunplay laid out, looking as if he was in a comatose state.
Gunplay is obviously not happy about this video surfacing and has shot back once again by releasing a diss track on youtube.
“You win some you lose some, nigga its nothing.” Gunplay starts out the video by saying that he wasn’t really concerned about the video and asking if 50 had a camera around when he got shot, referring to the incident on May 24, 2000 when 50 Cent was attacked and shot nine times by a gunman alleged to be Darryl “Hommo” Baum. Gunplay actually makes a good point, this could’ve happened to anyone, unfortunately he was the only one seen getting his ass whooped. Not a good look.
I’m wondering though; if Gunplay isn’t upset about the video 50Cent released, then why even respond with another youtube video and diss song? Sounds like he may be a little mad about it. Either way people know that 50 is going to be 50, why even entertain him. Both Lil Wayne and T.I. have chosen to take the higher road and stay away from all this Hip-Hop beef? If everybody is making money, what’s the point of the beef? Well, yall do you! I’m guessing that this beef is only the beginning because neither opponent looks like they’re backing down anytime soon.
