We knew there would be many effects from the historical election of Barack Obama to president both politically and socially here in America. One of those effects is being lead by a man who has been known as a visionary in his own right and holds great weight in the hip hop community. Diddy has announced he is coming out with a new men’s cologne called I am King which was inspired by the election of Obama.

Besides just announcing a new fragrance Diddy says he hopes to help change the perception of the black man in America through the advertisements for his new cologne. For years, or better yet since the beginning of modern television and film, blacks have often been portrayed as less educated and successful as white people. This as a result has carried into the advertisements that target the black consumer. Now with the election of Barack, ad agencies have to reevaluate their whole schema of thinking when it comes to marketing to black spenders. Diddy says his marketing for I am King will reflect this new way of thinking.

“It’s a new America and it’s our time,” Diddy quoted to The Wall Street Journal.  The new ads will feature Diddy in a black and white James Bond inspired outfit while jet skiing and living the lavish life aboard private yachts in France. Although these ads may seem out of touch with most people’s realities Diddy says he is not worried about that. “Everything on the market isn’t going to be attached to the bad economy,” he states. He also added that while the typical image of the successful black man has been a lot of jewelry and cars he wants to put out a new image of the successful black man. Men of course like himself and president elect Obama.

I am King will retail for $57 and will be available at all Macy’s stores in time for the holidays so we can all get presidentially fresh.
