Today, celebrities and many Twitter users celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s holiday by tweeting links to his speeches and their favorite King quotes.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a moving orator and a champion for equality and the end of racial discrimination.  Whether it was for the empowerment of African Americans, black Americans of all cultures, minorities or the impoverished, King pushed for their elevation.
King promoted non-violent means to end racial segregation and was the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. NobelPrize.org writes, ‘ When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.’
In 1968, King planned to lead a protest march with the striking garbage workers of Memphis, Tennessee. He was assassinated by a sniper while standing on the balcony of his hotel room. The sniper, later identified as James Earl Ray, was arrested. According to CBS, Ray died of liver failure while in prison.
