Staten Island, NY – New York City radio and television personality, DJ Megatron, born Corey McGriff, was gunned down in the Staten Island borough early this morning and was pronounced dead as authorities arrived to the scene. According to police, the shooting occurred around 2 to 3 in the morning.
Megatron, who is originally from Staten Island, was said to have just bought a new house with his girlfriend just giving birth to his third child. According to sources, it was a usual occurrence for Megatron to frequent Staten Island at around the same time as he was murdered, as that was his regular stomping grounds.
A close friend, who chose to remain nameless, spoke to New York Daily News about the incident:
“Everybody is shocked; he just had a new baby. He wasn’t feuding with anybody. Everybody liked him. I’m still shocked that somebody killed him, I can’t even understand why. It could be somebody that he didn’t even know. At that time of the night people do all kinds of crazy things.”
“I can’t see it being a personal thing because I don’t know of anybody who had a personal issue with him, but at the same time, when you start getting success you have people who don’t necessarily like that.”
One of Megatron’s friends, Lisa Torres, spoke recently with him before the incident. She immediately became overcome with tears as reality kicked in while speaking with NY Daily News:
“He just called me; he asked me if I was going to [a friend’s] party.”
“He’s right there on the ground. I can’t believe this,” she screamed as she broke down in tears. “You’re lying, you’re lying! That’s not Megatron right there.”
At press time, authorities are still investigating the murder and have yet to secure an eyewitness as the investigation continues.
