It is starting to seem like a fad to delay the release of albums after DJ Khaled, Drake, and Meek Mill all do so.  It could be a marketing technique to keep everyone talking about their album or could it be a delay because artists are forced to commit to a date and art is an untimely subject.

Meek Mill has been delaying his album and finally just announced the release date after the VMA’s. “Dreamchaser 3”, the third album in a series of “Dreamchaser”s, will be released on September 20th 4 days before Drake’s album.

Drake recently delayed his album from releasing on September 17nth but has now been delayed till September 24th and is going to be a hot release with singles from the album already showing high ratings.  “Nothing Was The Same” has slowly leaked across the inter webs in the past couple of months, slowly releasing singles and then the cover art when he informed everyone of the delay.  To top it off he performed a medley of “Hold On We’re Going Home” and “Started From The bottom” which are both singles from NWTS.  Coincidently DJ Khaled informed the public that his upcoming album will be moved from September 24th to October 22nd.

DJ Khaled has been earning a reputation of being a press fiend after proposing to Nicki Minaj on public television as a joke, however he didn’t tell anyone it was a joke.  It did gain him attention which is undeniable so maybe this could be another one of his tricks? Most likely he wouldn’t stand for releasing his album on the same day as Drake’s anticipated album, but almost a month after his announced release date is a little far.  It could be to let the heat from Meek Mill and Drake’s album to blow off, however the artist seems overly confident in the singles that make up the album.

Other albums to look for are the “A$AP Mob” album expected to be released on October 15nth and Joe Budden‘s EP, Some Love Lost and his album All Love Lost that don’t have an exact release day projected yet.
