After the release of the 2011 BET Awards nominees last night, one artist that should have been on the list was left in the dark. It seems as though, Miami’s own Diamond Princess was not chosen as one of the nominees to be included on the ‘Best Female Hip-Hop Artist’ category, a list that included Nicki Minaj, Diamond, Cymphonique, and Lola Monroe. Regardless of the fact that she dropped a mixtape and an album within the past 2 years, that didn’t seem to showcase any doubt on BET’s part. Not only that, she was even featured on the remix to Ludacris’ ‘My Chick Bad,’ that included nominee Diamond and Eve.
Everyone seemed to have chimed in on their twitter after hearing and seeing the list of nominees BET had put together last night:
@TRINARockstarr tweeted in a bold straight forward statement:
“Fuck BET……”
@NickiMinaj added her two cents as she tweeted:
“Looks @ nominations. Didn’t know it was April Fools… *waits for Trina’s name to appear before I take this seriously*”
@DiamondATL gave Trina some words of encouragement, as she homage to the original Diamond Princess. She tweeted:
“Shout out to my big sis @TRINArockstarr she has always been my idol! I don’t knw wut happen wit the nominations.. But she raised all of US!”
In related news, R&B vocalist Keyshia Cole felt the same animosity that Trina felt, when her name did not come in under the listing for her respective category ‘Best Female R&B Artist’ that included the likes of Beyoncé, Marsha Ambrosius, Keri Hilson, Jennifer Hudson, and Rihanna. Apparently her accomplishments last year fell unnoticed as well.
@KeyshiaCole jumped onto her Twitter to express her angst:
“That awkward moment when u realize in everyone’s eyes your not the sh*t anymore. #POW. I’ve officially got the memo. Thank mtv/bet”
At press time, BET has yet to officially respond to either artist.
