Miami, FL – Jay-Z and Beyonce recently celebrated their fifth anniversary in Cuba, which was reported all over the media within the past week. Interestingly enough, while the first family of Hip-Hop were enjoying their R&R in Cuba, congressmen in the U.S. were boggled on how they were allowed to travel to the country in the first place.
As new developments continue to surface, it appears Jay-Z went through the proper channels in order to secure travel to Cuba. It was then reported that his request was sanctioned and licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. However, even with all the proper documentations and approval, Congress is still questioning the trip and the approval. Within the past 5 days, two Florida Representatives from Congress investigated the trip and publicly demanded more information.
Junior Florida State Senator Marco Rubio (R) adds to the list of Congressmen who are outraged by the approval of this trip. He recently wrote a statement that was published in the Miami Herald.
This is what the statement read:
“U.S. law clearly bans tourism to Cuba by American citizens because it provides money to a cruel, repressive and murderous regime. Since their inception, the Obama Administration’s ‘people to people’ cultural exchange programs have been abused by tourists who have no interest in the Cuban people’s freedom and either don’t realize or don’t care that they’re essentially funding the regime’s systematic trampling of people’s human rights.
According to recent news reports, Jay-Z and Beyonce’s Cuba trip, which the regime seized on for propaganda purposes, was fully licensed by the Treasury Department. If true, the Obama Administration should explain exactly how trips like these comply with U.S. law and regulations governing travel to Cuba and it should disclose how many more of these trips they have licensed.”
As we are all aware, both Jay-Z and Beyonce are longtime supporters and friends of President Obama, so I doubt it would have been that difficult to secure anything of this nature. It’s good to have friends in high places.
President Obama or his administration have yet to comment on the topic.
