Raise your glasses of codeine, a toast is in order. The numbers are in, and Future’s third solo studio LP Dirty Sprite 2 pushed 147,000 copies in its first week in stores making it the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. The achievement marks the first No. 1 album in the Atlien’s career outselling his debut Pluto and last year’s follow up Honest.
The promotion for the album was nothing short of exceptional, and though he only recently announced the album the real ground work started late last year. In October the Freebands head honcho put out his well-received mixtape Monster. He followed that up in January with the Zaytoven-produced Beast Mode. 56 Nights in March made the trilogy complete. During the process, he dropped over a dozen music video and put out a five-part documentary in the days leading up to the album’s release. It didn’t stop there. Following the release date the astronaut kid embarked on a four-city Salute The Fans Tour which was free to the public and touched down in Atlanta, Chicago and New York before unsuccessfully attempting a show in L.A. that was twice shut down because people were too damn turnt.
It helps when you have a fan base that goes hard in the paint. The Future Hive is real folks. And hilarious as evident in the slew of funny vines that went up in honor of their beloved lean leader when Dirty Sprite 2 hit stores. They apparently have no problem spending their hard earned cash buying music either.
