Ghostwridah – Whether you or
love him or hate him, but one thing is certain about this Dade County MC: He’s got one
of the biggest buzzes in hip-hop these days and has been praised by everyone
from fans to his fellow peers about his lyrical abilities on a microphone.
Ghostwridah was one of the headliners for the “Cool Bowl” concert last Saturday
night (February 6, 2010), which was presented by Last Rights Clothing, LAX
Paperboys, Supreme Street, Traffic Boutique and hosted by Ashley Outrageous and
Mizzle.
Sporting a Prada skully
& scarf, exclusive Last Rights attire (not yet sold in stores) and a pair
of Nike SB Blazers, Ghostwridah hit the stage at approximately 12:15 and before
even getting into his set, took time out to quickly address the earthquake in Haiti.
“I need everybody in attendance to please be quiet so we can have a moment
of silence for the people of Haiti”. Ghost told the packed house. “We
out here partying and having a god time, but there’s people still trapped under
rubble that may or may not make it”.
The Miami-based rapper
then quickly dived into an acapella of his song “My Brother” and “To Be In
Love”. After receiving a quick ovation from the crowd, he swiftly ran through
songs from his popular mixtape, 305 & Heartbreaks, during
a lively 10-minute set.
Instead of having to prove
himself to the crowd, as others in the showcase have done, the still unsigned —
although probably not for long — artist powered through selections in front of
an audience that featured a mix of college kids and plenty of young women,
singing along with him.
You would think he had a
catalog albums-deep by the way his songs were being chanted throughout his set.
Through the course of his
career, Ghostwridah has released six mixtapes: the two most recent releases, The Ruler’s Back and 305 & Heartbreaks, have both garnered
the rapper with critical acclaim.
The sold-out show marked
Ghostwridah’s latest spot-date performance as he continues working on his debut
album, In Love With My Future. The
rapper told 24hourhiphop.com that the original release date was February 14th,
but due to scheduling conflicts and touring, he plans to hopefully release his
solo project sometime in March. He has yet to announce what label he’ll sign
to, however.
After running through
“Say You Will”, and his freestyle to Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit
C”, Ghostwridah ended the show with his brand new ode to women and a certain
pairs of shoes. “How many of y’all women own a pair of Christian
Louboutins? How many of y’all know someone who would spend their college
tuition or their rent money on a pair of Red Bottoms?” he said, as the chorus
of the Don Cannon produced “Red Bottoms” boomed through the venue. By the end
of his performance you could tell who was going home with a championship ring
as the coolest at the “Cool Bowl”.
