Collier, who directed the film, and crew traveled extensively throughout the U.S. by RV to capture the stories of the people who are making their living from Hip-Hop; everyone from local rap acts selling CD’s from their cars, to clothing designers and hairdressers to DJ’s, producers and record artists.
Among these compelling stories is the tale of Luda, who Collier’s crew met in Atlanta just months before he landed his recording contract and launched what would become a multi-platinum career.
Slated to be released via Koch Vision, Paper Chasers also offers an inside look at the careers of Chuck D, Rah Digga and Sway, among others. Over 50 figures in music, film and fashion shared their stories of struggle to survive and succeed as Hip-Hop entrepreneur. Collier’s cameras focus on label executives as well, featuring Russell Simmons, Damon Dash, Jermaine Dupri, Master P. and J. Prince as they recount their trailblazing stories.
After making its debut at the 2003 Tribeca Film Festival and being aired last fall on the Independent Film Channel (IFC), the film will finally be available on DVD July 12.
The Paper Chasers DVD also contains over 60 minutes of extras, including never-before-seen performances of Ludacris & Disturbing tha Peace, Buckshot and others.
Paper Chasers is Collier’s third feature project. He previously co-produced the award-winning film, Detention. His directorial debut was in 2000 with a film entitled Hacks.
Paper Chasers will be in stores on July 12.
