Sorry to ruin it for you guys but I have all the 411 from this weekend’s BET hip hop awards. The show doesnt air until October 12th, but luckily for you I found all the info on this weekend’s winnings. Big winners of that evening were Nicki Minaj and Jay-Z who were presented with three awards each.
Minaj received Rookie of the Year, beating Chiddy Bang, J. Cole, Roscoe Dash and Waka Flocka Flame. She additionally won Verizon People’s Champ kudo and Made You Look award. For the latter prize, she pushed aside Jay- Z, B.o.B, T.I. and Kanye West.
“Last year, I was here in anticipation of the cypher. Now I’m here in anticipation of my debut. [Pink Friday],” Minaj told the crowd when accepting one of her trophies. “I’m paving the way for girls. I wanna thank all the girls of hip-hop.”
Although losing Made You Look kudo to Minaj, Jay-Z who didn’t attend the prize-giving event still won Perfect Combo for his Alicia Keys-assisted hit single “Empire State of Mind”, CD of the Year for 2009 “The Blueprint 3” and also Best Live Performer.
Bet Hip-Hop Awards was hosted by Mike Epps and is scheduled to air on October 12 at 8/7c. Performers included Rick Ross,Gucci Mane, Swizz Beatz, Soulja Boy, J. Cole, Big Boi, MC Hammer, Dipset and Cali Swagg District. Waka Flocka Flame also performed at the event, but his performance might be cut. Flame rapped “Hard in the Paint” and “No Hands” on the show when deciding to jump off the stage to connect with his fans during the set, something which was not rehearsed and unfortunately not approved by BET executive Stephen G. Hill.
