The Don of the South and Rap A Lot CEO, J Prince, can breathe a little easier now as one of his many lawsuits and criminal cases have been thrown out due to inconsistent eveidence. The lawsuit and assault charges stemmed from an incident in which a Houston studio owner, Ronnie Bookman, claimed to have been beaten by Prince and associates at one of Prince’s community gyms that he owns. Bookman says he allowed Bun to record his debut album, Trill, at his studios for next to nothing in return for  a certified Bun verse. However when it was time to move forward with the release of the album with the Bun verse on it Bookman says Prince fronted on him and wouldn’t clear the record. Bookman then confronted Prince at the gym where the beating allegedly took place, one which left him with a broken nose, along with head and body injuries. Bookman pressed charges and also filed a $10million dollar lawsuit against Prince for a variety of issues including “attempting to eliminate competition in the Houston Rap and Hip-Hop music business through the use of threats, intimidation and violence.” Bookman also accused Prince of breach of contract, battery, unfair competition, duress, conspiracy and unjust enrichment.

Well yesterday The Harris County District Attorney dropped the charges against Prince due to inconsistent statements from witnesses. As a result the $10 million dollar lawsuit will also be tossed. At the verdict Prince himself says he wasn’t surprised. “I always felt like they would be [dropped]….” Prince said in a statement. “It’s definitely a blessing to have that confirmed.” Prince claims Bookman was just another shark in the pool looking for a meal.  “That dude is a clown. He’s always been a clown,” Said Prince. “He knows better than everybody why he got his ass whipped. For him to say I had anything to do with it, he’s telling a lie, there’s not a bit of truth in it.” Prince goes on to say that Mr. Bookman has a less that savory past. “If anyone with good sense would pull this guy Ronnie Bookman’s record, they would see how bad his credibility stinks,” Prince said. J Prince founded the legendary Houston based Rap A Lot Records, home to Scarface and The Geto Boys. He has been known as “The Don of the South” acting as peacemaker between feuding artists as well as helping them get out of shady deals which will help feed their families for years. It is a well known fact that he has been involved in either a criminal case, investigation, or some form of a lawsuit, everyday of his life for the past 20 or so years. Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems I guess.
