Jacob Arabov, better known as Jacob “The Jeweler”, was sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison in a Detroit courtroom Tuesday for money laundering charges. The sentence was part of aplea deal Arabov worked out and was a fraction of the 50 years he was facing. The charges are part of the long running BMF or Black Mafia Family investigations conducted by the DEA, who say BMF sold coke nationwide and made hundreds of millions of dollars. Arabov’s role in the group obviously wasn’t a soldier or pack pumper, but instead was a back door partner who cleaned up the dirty drug money through his various  legitimate businesses. Arabov was charged with conspiring to launder $270 million in drug profits. As part of his plea deal, he admitted to falsifying records and giving false statements to federal prosecutors, in exchange for the dismissal of the money laundering charges. The judge said he gave Arabov such a light sentence due to his past charitable work and several letters or recommendation by some of his high society clientele. The Jeweler himself made a statement saying he was deeply ashamed of his actions and has learned a lesson from it all. “I feel ashamed that I broke the laws of this country, a country that has been so good for me,” Arabov said at the sentencing. “I will carry this shame for the rest of my life.” At the sentencing his attorney also handed over 2 million dollars to an IRS agent who was present as part of the deal as well. Jacob gets to remain free until January of next year and then must turn himself into prison where the 43 year old iceman will be chilling for some time.
