In yet another notch on his belt of shit most rappers just can’t do, Jay-Z has been bestowed an honor that no other rapper and very few entertainers at all have been awarded. The Special Humanitarian Award from the United Nations was given to Jay to recognize his philanthropic efforts in Africa for trying to help the water crisis. Do recall earlier this year Jay was on an extensive African tour and put in a thousand water well pumps to villages with no access to clean water. This is a major problem there as a child dies every 15 seconds from not having adequate drinking water. The tour and the giving of the water pumps was documented by MTV and brought much needed attention to the issue.

Of the honor Jay says he appreciates it but he was just doing what he knew in his heart was the right thing.  “If you bring awareness to young people, they’re going to see and want to be involved,” Jay-Z stated. “I’m not a politician; I’m just a regular person with a heart. If you see a problem like that and do nothing about it, there’s something wrong with you.”  Amen to that. Maybe more rappers should start helping people be able to live and feed their families instead of making it rain on booty shakers. Just a thought.
