It has been recently released that Paul Bergin, lawyer to Hip-Hop stars, has been arrested and charged with murder and conspiracy to murder a witness in a drug case. Monday, May 20, 2009 Bergin was officially charged. According to the Associated Press:
“A defense attorney and former federal prosecutor was charged Wednesday with arranging the killing of one witness and trying to hire a hit man to kill another. Bergrin is accused of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in a 14-count federal indictment. Four others also are named in the indictment, including Bergrin’s fellow attorney, Thomas Moran. The others face charges including racketeering, wire fraud and conspiracy in what prosecutors characterized as a criminal enterprise that also engaged in witness tampering, money laundering and drug trafficking.”
Bergin, who clientele consists of Lil Kim and Queen Latifah, was reportedly heard on tape requesting a hit on an Illinois resident. Bloomberg reported this issue and had this to say:
“The attorney was indicted in the five-year-old murder by a grand jury in Newark, New Jersey. He was charged in the death of an informant who was preparing to testify against a client. He was also accused of trying to hire a Chicago hit man to kill a witness in another federal drug case. The assassin recorded their conversations and is cooperating in the case, prosecutors said. If convicted, Bergrin faces the death penalty or a mandatory sentence of life in prison.”
Well if he goes to jail, who will keep Lil Kim out? The U.S. Attorney Ralph Marra lent his thoughts on the issue to the New York Daily News.
“The conduct alleged is simply shocking,” said Marra, the acting New Jersey U.S. attorney on Bergin. “A licensed lawyer, a former prosecutor, essentially became one of the criminals he represents.”
Tough break, he must not be that good of a lawyer if he couldn’t even keep himself out of jail.
T.I Seeks Prison Delay
So obviously getting time taken of his sentence wasn’t enough. T.I. had now reportedly requested additional time home before reporting to jail next week as well as placement in a safer facility that is closer to his Georgia home.
According to Fort Mill Times, T.I. made his request Thursday, May 21, 2009.
“Harris asked a court today to let him remain free while he seeks placement in a minimum-security prison closer to his Atlanta home. He claims prison officials miscalculated his criminal history. His lawyer called a 2003 incident a “scuffle” with a mall cop. A pre-sentencing report says T.I. has a “serious history of violence.” The rapper is scheduled to report by noon Tuesday to the Federal Correction Institution at Forrest City, Arkansas. He was fined $100,000 and sentenced to 366 days for trying to buy machine guns and silencers he said he needed for protection.”
We’ll we will see if his prayers are answered. Good luck on that T.I.
