Lil Wayne was the center of big industry chatter yesterday when it was released by several websites that he had just finalized a deal with Jay-Z’s newly formed Roc Nation label. The word was that Wayne signed for 5 milli flat and would release the new Carter III on the label. The news obviously was skeptical to some as no one had heard anything about this deal before and we all know Wayne is still deeply repping Cash Money.
Well today reps for the rapper extraordinaire have said that the talk was just that, talk. “Wayne is not going anywhere and is fully looking to continue his partnership and growth with Cash Money,” the rep told 24hour. It’s not really clear where the rumors came from or if Jay and Wayne have been having talks lately at all. I know a few years ago when Jay first got to Def Jam they had a few convos but nothing ever materialized there.
Wayne has also been making the blog circuit lately as pissed off fans are letting him have it for a couple of missed shows. He was first scheduled to headline a Sunday October 26 sold out show that also featured Rick Ross, T-Pain, and Ludacris but Wayne refused to go on due to his unhappiness with the venue’s sound system. Luda stepped up to the plate for Wayne but the 80,000 fans in attendance weren’t pleased and most left demanding full refunds. Those who did stay took their anger out on Luda, chanting “Wayne!” throughout his whole set.
His next ‘got cha!’ act took place yesterday in Boston for JAMN’s 94.5 Monster Jam. It was to be a mega jam with Jay-Z and Wayne co-headlining the show but things didn’t go as planned. When the Martian got to the venue he refused to go through the metal detectors and instead opted to just bounce. This time though the fans weren’t too disappointed as they just got to see more Jay-Z. Hey can’t really complain about that no matter what right? At press time Wayne has not released a comment.
