Grammy Award-winning rap star LL Cool will be honored with the “I Am Hip-Hop Icon” award during the 6th annual BET Hip-Hop awards in Atlanta this October.



The rapper, who has also been nominated for the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame twice, began his career as the flagship artist on Def Jam Records, in 1984.



His career is still going strong to this day, as "Sam Hanna" on CBS's #1 hit show “NCIS: Los Angeles,” which is now in its third season for the network.



LL also starred in a successful sitcom series from 1995 until 1999, titled “In the House,” which aired on the UPN network.



Additionally, LL has been features in dozens of films and TV shows including hit movies like “Any Given Sunday,” "S.W.A.T" and even the classic 1986 movie "Wildcats," which featured a classic sports rap by the rapper at the end.  



He's also released four books, including his autobiography, a children's book and two fitness books.



LL Cool J joins an esteemed list of recipients of BET's “I Am Hip-Hop Icon” award, which is been given to legendary artists like Grandmaster Flash, KRS-One, Russell Simmons, Ice Cube and Salt-N-Pepa.



The BET HipHop Awards will be hosted by comedian Mike Epps and taped at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center on Saturday, October 1st.



The show will air on Tuesday, October 11th at 8:00 PM.
