Saturday night’s DMV Hip-Hop Awards were supposed to celebrate the accomplishments of Washington, D.C.’s Hip-Hop scene, but the event turned into chaos when fights erupted amongst rival crews.

Over 1,500 people attended the DMV Hip-Hop Awards, which took place at the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City on Saturday (March 5th).

The event took a turn for the worst during the intermission to the show, when rival Hip-Hop crews began to beef, in what became a 60-man brawl in the middle of the hotel.

“This community is comprised of thousands from Baltimore to northern Virginia who love to make music and support the artists who do so,” veteran, respected promoter Dre All Day said in a statement.

“It was in this spirit that the DMV Music Awards were created five years ago, and in this spirit, the ‘DMV’ will continue to move forward in the efforts to share great work with the worldwide community of music fans,” organizers said.

According to Detective Crystal Nosal, five people were injured in the large brawl, but no arrests have been made, although the investigation in ongoing.

DC representative Wale, who recently signed to Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, took to Twitter to urge the D.C. scene to organize and unite.

“Just heard about the DMV awards,” Wale tweeted. “DC hiphop took major steps last year…And now this. WE gotta do better.”
