New York, NY – In what has been circulating news across the net and media outlets alike, Kanye West’s new video for the track ‘Monster’ has become somewhat of controversy for its enigmatic and disturbing imagery. The song itself is one of the crazed singles off of West’s album ‘My Dark Twisted Fantasy,’ and features the talents Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and Nicki Minaj.
At first, media outlets over the weekend thought that the video was banned completely by MTV and its affiliates because the imagery that the video depicted. It seems as though hype into the release of this video commenced around as early as December of last year when a clip hit the net showcasing Miami rapper Rick Ross biting down on what a appeared to be a bloody piece of meat all in front of a corpse of a woman. Days later, a trailer was then released showcasing more gore and tactfully teasing the audience.
The video itself borrowed many different ideas from horror-movie themes such as ‘Saw,’ ‘Night of the Living Dead,’ and ‘American Psycho,’ amongst others. Many critics and fans lashed out at the production stating that the imagery was more “disturbing” if anything.
According to MTV, the video was not completely banned, but instead requested many edits from Ye’s label in order to follow the guidelines based on the channel’s decency standards on music videos. Here is a statement released by the network through their MTV News:
“MTV has not banned Kanye West’s ‘Monster’ video, we have been in constant communication with the label regarding this matter. However, we are still awaiting the edits we requested in order for the video to be suitable for broadcast.”
Kanye West, who is normally outspoken about his music and his art, has ironically stayed quiet and backed away from the piece as described by MTV as: “Kanye West performing with dead women at his bedside, Jay-Z rapping with a naked corpse face-down on a leather couch behind him and Nicki Minaj appearing in an executioner’s chair.”
At press time, West nor any of his representatives have commented or released a statement to the release of the video.
