Def Jam Celebrates 25 Years of Hip-Hop

New York, NY – The most iconic label that pioneered Hip-Hop into new eras and spawned the most predominate artists throughout two decades celebrated their quarter of a century anniversary on Saturday night. The event was star-studded with a long list of celebrities, producers, and artists all celebrating 25 years of music and culture.

On Saturday night, the M2 Ultra Lounge in Chelsea,New York was filled to capacity all in celebration of an historic event, especially on the eve of the MTV Video Music Awards. The whole weekend in NYC must have been filled with huge events leading up to the prestigious award show. In attendance at the event was: Polow Da Don, Claudia Jordan, Zab Judah, Melody Thornton, Malinda Williams, Eva Pigford, Ice-T, his wife Coco, and especially Def Jam artists like Juelz Santana, Ne-Yo, Fabolous, and Adrienne Bailon.

DJ Cassidy was at the helm that night holding down the club spinning several Def Jam old school joints like: DMX’s ‘Get At Me Dog,’ Jay-Z’s ‘Can I Get A…,’ Onyx’s ‘Slam, LL Cool J’s ‘Jingling Baby’ Run DMC’s ‘My Adidas’ and ‘It’s Tricky.’ Just by the music alone, you begin to seriously reminisce on the music history that Def Jam provided to us over the years. You could tell in the atmosphere that the people were enjoying the night; there was even one point during a segment of songs from EPMD that you could see Ice-T standing at his table in VIP while his wife danced with his daughter.

After the Def Jam segment faded out, Cassidy then began spinning tracks from around different eras from Diddy’s All About the Benjamins, to post Def Jam Jay-Z songs from the new album ‘The Blueprint 3.’ From the many tweets and conversations, there is no doubt in anyone’s mine that the celebration was a huge success and we await the next 25 years.

It’s hard to believe that 25 years have already passed and it’s amazing to know the amount of music that came out of the iconic label. Def Jam has provided the entire world with music through two decades and continue to so until this day. 24hourhiphop.com congratulates Def Jam for 25 magnificent years. Let’s continue on for another 25 years, Hip-Hop Lives On.

Charges Dropped Against Chargers LB Shawne Merriman

San Diego, CA – On last Monday’s ‘On the Clock Report,’ it was reported that San Diego Charges Linebacker Shawne Merriman was apparently charged for allegedly choking his girlfriend, reality showgirl, Tila Tequila during a house party at Merriman’s residence. According to witnesses at the party, Merriman was only trying to restrain her from leaving the residence in the inebriated state that she was obviously in.

When authorities arrived, Tequila pressed charges on Merriman stating that he put his hands on her. He was arrested and charged with battery. Apparently, reports have been circulating that those charges have been dropped. It seems as though the San Diego District Attorney’s Office has dismissed the charges filed against him.

Here is the official statement issued by the San Diego DA’s Office:

“After a thorough review of the investigation into the Sept. 6, 2009, incident at the Poway home of Shawne Merriman, our office has determined there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that any crime was committed. This case is now closed. No further comment will be made.”

After seeing what Chris Brown went through with Rihanna earlier in the year, a relieved Shawne Merriman was praying that he wouldn’t go down the same path. He issued a statement of his own after hearing that the charges against would be dismissed. In that statement, he expressed gratitude towards the DA’s office and especially his team and his superiors:

“I want to express my appreciation and gratitude to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney’s office for carefully reviewing the evidence and not rushing to judgment on these serious allegations. I also appreciate the objectiveness expressed by the San Diego Charges ownership and management, my teammates, my friends and especially all the fans. I look forward to continuing to stay focused on my career goals: a great season of football and the success of the San Diego Chargers.”

At press time, Tila Tequila nor any of her representatives have yet to express any comments on the recent reports. The San Diego Chargers, however, are relieved and ecstatic that the charges were dropped as Merriman is a key player in their defensive strategy.

On the real, I bet the Chargers are relieved, I don’t think they could handle the press and media barrage if Merriman was charged. After the nightmare with Michael Vick, I don’t any NFL team wants to experience that route. On the other hand, Tila just wanted a damn paycheck from Merriman and now that she’s not getting it, she has to find another alternative.
