Mega Hip-Hop Heavyweights React to Obama’s Victory
Triumph and victory was bestowed upon, not only Barack Obama, but the entire nation as the first African American became presidential elect. Many people all over the world celebrated as the results came in at 339 electoral votes. Despite all the doubts, Obama conquered over the masses and proved that his campaign was much stronger and the American citizens believed and needed ‘Change.’ Throughout his campaign the Hip-Hop community stood strong and firm as they endorsed him every step of the way.
Mega Hip-Hop artists including Jay-Z, Diddy, Young Jeezy, Mary J. Blige, Nas, Busta Rhymes, The Game, and Will.I.Am recorded tracks endorsing the vote for Obama, adding fuel to a world that they cater to so well. After the final results tallied at the end of Election Day, many of these artists made their presence felt as they sent emails to MTV News, as some posted blogs.
Terror Squad alumni, Joey Crack, was extremely excited after the triumphant victory of Obama.
“Obama! That Latino vote!”
R&B superstar, Usher, even left some comments of his own to MTV News.
It’s just incredible to know that Barack Obama is our president. Can I say this? The coolest shit ever!
Phat Farm mogul, Russell Simmons, left a statement for MTV News late Tuesday night.
“The vision of the hip-hop generation and its young people is in full and glorious effect tonight. While many older Americans, who marched and struggled so hard so Senator Obama could run for president of the United States, never dared to believe in his candidacy’s real potential, young people, particularly the hip-hop community, had faith, and their imagination became our reality.”
“Obama’s election as president is a beautiful testament to the American collective consciousness that is flowering. This more loving consciousness will be necessary to protect us from some of our hurtful human choices and tendencies. We will need it to create balance with the constantly emerging advances in technology so, going forward, we can use these advances in a positive way to lift up Mother Earth and all her inhabitants.”
The Boss himself even added his own comments.Rick Ross told MTV News his thoughts on Obama’s win.
“I’m just … to be honest, I’m speechless, I think we all should be. It’s time for action. I’m one of the people that really think life can be a mind game at times. To see this obstacle that us, as men of color, have overcome. There are a lot of mind games that people played on us, or we used as an excuse for not being successful. I think the picture that Barack will paint for black males will be phenomenal. [The world] is finnin’ to see us as being compassionate, as far as being leaders, as far as having the potential to be great as president.”
At press time, Barack Obama will be inaugurated into presidency on January 20, 2009; this will be another most watched event in history next to Election Day. In the next couple of weeks, Jeezy’s infamous theme song ‘My President’ will air its video in light of Obama’s victory. At the same time Nas and Will.I.Am have recorded their own new tracks as well.
I can honestly say that I am ecstatic to be alive to be apart of such historic proportions. Obama’s campaign was impressive and his whole strive for excellence and change pushed the envelope for what this nation needed. Even his speech was overpowering and heartfelt as silenced filled air to the only voice heard was his. This is a new era, Bush is finally out of office, hopefully things change for the better and we can finally live up to 2Pac’s song. Let’s give a round of applause for President Barack Obama.
Hip-Hop Artists Continue the Victory Celebration
New York, NY – Last Wednesday night, a day after the elections took place, a plethora of artists came together to throw a Victory party in light of Obama’s win. Artists that attended the celebrity event included Jay-Z, Diddy, Russell Simmons, Keyshia Cole, and Mary J. Blige.
We have always known Diddy and Jay-Z to speak their piece when it to politics, as a matter of Diddy even once rallied a voting program earlier in the decade. Hov, however, always voiced his opinion through his vivid lyrics. There is a leaked song rotating across the net entitled ‘History’ where Jay has voiced his ongoing support on the push for our first Black President.
Veteran artist Busta Rhymes even voiced his own opinions on the matter during an interview with MTV News.
“First thing I want to tell the fans or the people reading this is congratulations to them, cause at the end of the day, the possible reality of us being able to live this experience is impossible without the support and coming together. People took the time out and dedicated their lives. People wasn’t allowing nothing but death [to] stop them from getting out and supporting Barack. That was inspiring to me because it helped me realize that we will make the decision to do the right thing when it’s unanimously obvious that it’s the right thing. A lot of the times, we take for granted that the common man is not as smart to the do right thing. Election Day was a testament to prove everybody wrong who might have felt that way.”
Hip-Hop will always push barriers and strive for the belief of a better world. This is adds more fuel to their lyrics and their subject matter, look out for more material involving Obama within the next several albums to hit the selves. This further proves that our voice is loud and that we will always be heard.
Beyonce to Perform at Obama’s Inauguration
R&B Superstar, Beyonce, has even added her ongoing support to President-elect Barack Obama. She has volunteered her services, if need be, to perform at the inauguration in January.
This was her statement to the Associated Press concerning her role and her thoughts on the historic event.
“I’m there. I can’t wait. I feel like all of us, we’re ready to do whatever we have to do. Whatever they want — if they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I’m there, and I’m ready. I’ve never been so patriotic! I’m just beyond excited.”
Interestingly enough, during the election, Beyonce was scheduled to be in Japan to promote her new album, but decided to stay home to watch the results of the election.
“I said, ‘What am I doing? I’m completely making a bad decision. I have to go home. I’m gonna kill myself if I’m not home in America. I knew I needed to be here. I fell asleep crying and smiling at the same time, I woke up with mascara running and a smile on my face!”
At press time, Beyonce has an album on the verge of release entitled ‘I Am….Sasha Fierce.’ Speculations are circulating that the album has already been leaked.
If there is a Hip-Hop concert during the Presidential Inauguration, then it is official, the music has taken over. It’s good to see that Hip-Hop and Politics can intertwine and we are able to reach the community through music.
