Jay-Z Premieres New Track on New York’s Hot 97
New York, NY – The coming of ‘The Blueprint 3’ will be met with epic proportions as the release date continues to draw ever so close. Every single time Hov releases an album the world takes notice and thrives on the new material. This time is no different as the anticipation still continues to rise as the days pass. This time around it seems as though Jay doesn’t mind throwing new joints at us every once in awhile whether official or unofficially just to showcase what his next album will have in store.
This past Friday night (June 5), New York listeners were provided an exclusive from the icon himself as he debuted his latest record for his fans on NY’s infamous radio station Hot 97. Now the excitement wasn’t around the debut of the track much less the content the track provided. The record apparently was blatant as the title sounds, ‘D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune).’ It wasn’t clear whether or not Jay was directed it towards anyone in general except the fact that many artists nowadays have been using the technique and option in a lot of their material. Hov basically provided them with a message exemplifying that Auto-tune isn’t real Hip-Hop, even going forth mentioning T-Pain as the originator.
In the record ‘Death of Auto-Tune,’ produced by Kanye West and No I.D., Jay literally goes in on his frustration of the use of Auto-Tune through his pivotal verse after verse play by play, right down to the blatant in your face hook.
These are just lyric excerpts from the record:
“This is anti-Auto-Tune, death of the Ringtone.
This ain’t for iTunes, this ain’t for singalongs, This is Sinatra at the opera, bring a blonde.
You rappers singing too much/ Get back to rap, you T-Pain-ing too much/ I’m a multi-millionaire/ So how am I the hardest nigga here?
My raps don’t have melodies/ It should make jackers commit felonies/ This ain’t a #1 record, this is practically assault with a deadly weapon.”
After the premiere of the track, Hov called into Hot 97 and spoke to Funkmaster Flex and Mister Ceeexplaining the reasoning behind the recording and release of the track. We’ve all known Jay-Z to be very outspoken when something tends to frustrate him.
These were his comments:
I think I said something important. The guys who did it, did it great. T-Pain, he does great melodies, if you listen to Kanye, great melodies. If you listen to [West’s] ‘Say You Will’ or ‘Heartless,’ great melodies. [Lil Wayne an
d T-Pain’s] ‘Lollipop’ was a fantastic melody. Everybody can’t do it. Let them guys do it. They got their little niche, let’s move on. That’s just my opinion. I don’t know if everybody feels the same way.”
Hov continued to add that his third installment to the Blueprint series will released under joint partnership with Atlantic, whereas they will provide the distribution while his imprint Roc Nation will provide the promotions and marketing:
“I got the foundation and I’m ready to blast off. I bought my album back — I overpaid for it. I believe at this point in my career, I wanted to be totally independent and free in what I wanted to do. Def Jam and Universal, they did a beautiful thing in letting me pay. They overcharged me a little bit, but I appreciate all the years they put into my career … I could never have a [traditional] record deal. I’m working with Atlantic, they gonna distribute the album and they’re doing a fantastic job. I get
a chance to connect with the people I started my career with. It’s almost like poetic justice.”
At press time, the song ‘Death of Auto-Tune’ is now available for download under our Music On Demand section as well as other websites across the net. According to sources close to Hov, this latest record, apparently, will not be the official first single off the album, instead a track entitled ‘On That’ featuring Drake will be released shortly. Jay and Ciara will start off their reported tour in Las Vegas on July 3, while ‘The Blueprint 3’ will be slated to be released on September 11.
The use of Auto-Tone was beginning to be quite annoying, not to mention it was destroying real Hip-Hop, Hov does it again. It’s been a minute since he released an album, but every time he does, the outcome is phenomenal. He states that this album will be his best work up to date, I’m looking forward to see what he includes into this one as of lyrical content, production, and guest features. The lineup for to the sequel to ‘Swagger Like Us already looks quite prosperous.
Lil Wayne & Drake to Tour with Young Jeezy and Soulja Boy
The hardest working artist in the industry today must be that of Lil Wayne as he never seems to disappoint his fans and lately he has been literally everywhere. Just recently coming off tour with Keyshia Cole, T-Pain, and Gym Class Heroes and with another album on the way, it seems as though Wayne will be right back on the road again this time with an interesting line up, question is, where does he find the time to record? News has been hitting media outlets that yet another tour has been in the works to bring Wayne back to cities that caters many of his dedicated fans.
Sources close to Wayne and Soulja Boy have confirmed that a tour line up, as of now, will include: Lil Wayne, Drake, Young Jeezy, and Soulja Boy will be in the works for this upcoming summer. And, of course, the major heavyweight artists involved are quite enthusiastic about the whole outcome, it wasn’t long before they were commenting and tweeting about it.
Sometime in May, the hottest unsigned artist that is Drake told MuchMusic.com that he will be included in a similar tour to involve Jay-Z. At the time, he just recorded a song with Hov, so it was possible until Jigga later signed on with R&B starlet Ciara:
“God willing, if everything goes according to plan and everybody’s schedule is in place, then I will be on tour with some amazing people, one of them being Jay-Z, one of them being Lil Wayne, one of them being Young Jeezy and one of them being me.”
This past Thursday night (June 4), Soulja Boy posted the announcement on his twitter after hearing about it himself:
“TSA (Twitter Service Announcement) — I’m going on Tour with Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy & Drake this summer! Get ya tickets ASAP!!!!”
At press time, cities and dates are still being scheduled for the upcoming concert. Check back with 24hourhiphop.com for the confirmed listing. Lil Wayne’s confirmed seventh studio album ‘Rebirth’ has been set to drop on August 18.
On the real, this lineup is quite interesting, they just need to drop wack ass Soulja Boy, then it would be crazy. Either way, I’ll still review the damn show, so definitely look out for that.
Soulja Boy Discusses Jay-Z
New York, NY – As young artists continue to rise in their stardom, let’s not forget the artists that came before them. One such artist who is still in his youth, yet is making what some veteran artists dream, is sometimes questioned about the role he plays in new Hip-Hop or Hip-Hop in general. Fans can’t help to ask about his thoughts about the artists who paved the way for Soulja Boy’s career to be a success. Sometime last year, he collided with veteran West Coast Hip-Hop artist Ice-T and had an exchange of disparaging words in the media, so in essence fans question his thoughts about other heavyweight artists.
After the stint with Ice-T, fans and media alike questioned his thoughts on the icon Jay-Z and whether or not he was a fan. He recently spoke to MTV News about Jay when the question arose.
These were his comments:
“Jay-Z, I always respected him, always. But I didn’t always like his music. I guess because I was too young, and I couldn’t understand what he was saying. … I got signed when I was 16 years old. Before I got signed, I heard the song, and I was like, ‘That’s Jay-Z.’ My favorite song from him was ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder.’ I guess I liked the beat or the way he was flowing on there. Any other song I used to hear, I ain’t really vibe with it like that. I used to listen to a lot of Down South artists like Three 6 Mafia or Gucci Mane. But recently, since I’m older now and I grew up, I like Jay-Z now. I’m a fan of his music. At first, I used to just respect him because he was Jay-Z; now I’m a fan of his music and I wanna work with him.
In the car ride over here, we was listening to ‘Brooklyn Go Hard. He said, ‘I’m Jackie Robinson — I jack, I rob, I sin.’ I didn’t know he was snapping like that. Back then, I couldn’t understand none of what he was saying.”
At press time, Soulja Boy will be headlining a tour with Lil Wayne, Drake, and Young Jeezy starting sometime this summer. As of now, the dates and cities are still being locked in.
Soulja Boy’s wack ass still needs to grow up, of course he didn’t understand Jay’s music, his mind couldn’t process the lyricism that Jay possesses. As much as he tries, he will never reach the caliber that Jay-Z has gotten to, hence the reason why Hov is real Hip-Hop and he is destroying it.
