Lil Wayne tours England and talks about the late Static Major

New York, NY – Last week in New Orleans, the former members of the Hot Boys held their first reunion after seven years. During that exact time, one of the main members, Lil Wayne, couldn’t attend because he just so happened to be touring in England.

Even with one of his hottest singles hitting the airwaves and just recently having a video debut, Lil Wayne was still in London vibing with the English crowd. Being an international superstar is without a doubt the best feeling any artist could ever achieve, he apparently takes it all in like a blessing, but still grieves for the loss of his Lollipop co-creator. He recently talked to MTV News about his tour overseas and the passing of Static Major.

“It’s scary at first, but then refreshing when you walk offstage and hear everyone shouting, ‘Weezy, Weezy, Weezy.’ That’s a relief. They knew the words to my songs, my girlfriends’ phone numbers, everything. That’s a big surprise to know that they actually understand what I’m talking about, because you have to know what I’m talking about to say it.”

While in the U.K., he wasn’t quite following the stats on his latest single off of his most anticipated album to date, but apparently received feedback about Lollipop. Even with the thought of his single on his mind, he still holds grievances for the song’s counterpart.

“I’m not gonna front, I haven’t been home yet, so I didn’t know it was out. My mom called me yesterday and was like, ‘I like it.’ And I was like, ‘Like what?’ But rest in peace, [Static]. I mean, he was on the song with me, and he passed away a couple of weeks ago. So that whole song and event is in memory of him. As a person, he was great. He was from Louisville, Kentucky. He was real humble. He’s a songwriter extraordinaire. I could throw one song out there that he wrote: He wrote ‘Rock the Boat’ for Aaliyah. He was actually about to drop a solo album this year, man, and I’m on his first solo single. I wrote the treatment to that video too, but we didn’t get to shoot it, unfortunately.”

At press time, Tha Carter III is still set for an April release, but hasn’t secured an exact release date. Keep posted to 24hourhiphop.com on more news of Lil Wayne, his album Tha Carter III, and the process of the Hot Boys.

Rest in Peace to Static Major, he was only 33 years old when he passed and was in the process of hitting it big. Hopefully, they still release his debut album, whatever he got a chance to finish.

Miami on Top Early in 2008

Miami, FL. – With the release of two of the most anticipated albums to date coming out of Miami back to back, it goes to show that the city is at the top of its game. Between Rick Ross and Flo Rida having hits left and right, only time can tell on what the next singles in line for these two mega stars might be.

Within his first week, The Boss, Ricky Ross, sold almost 200,000 units reigning in number 1. Press all the place is still buzzing about his album and its status as of right now. Flo’s numbers come in this week; let’s see how many units he’s going to sell. Even with the anticipation of Brisco’s Street Medicine on rise, there’s no stopping the reign that is obviously on their side. 2008, Miami is taking over the industry with evidence. Ironically, all three artists are the products of Poe Boy.

On the real, sometimes things are just the truth; Miami is definitely at the top and it’s all because of Poe Boy’s amazing marketing, I really gotta give it to them. They turned Flo Rida into an international superstar in a matter of a couple of months. With their dedication and the backing of Poe Boy, Ross, Brisco, and Flo have a long future ahead of them in the music business.

Check back with 24hourhiphop.com later this week for the soundscan results of Flo Rida’s Mail on Sunday.
