Poe Boy Releases Two Mixtapes within Same Week

Miami, FL – With the passing of the unofficial holiday, the week of 4/20, Poe Boy released two separate mixtapes from two different mixtapes all in light of the smokers’ holiday. In support of the 420 petition, both Brisco and Billy Blue released music inspired by the herb.

The release of Brisco’s ‘O.G. Kush II’ and Billy Blue’s ‘Wake N Bake’ provided fans with brand new material from two of their favorite artists reigning from Miami. Dedicated fans finally got a chance to see the hard work behind closed doors from Poe Boy Music Group. It is evident that both artists spend much of their time in the studio regularly on a daily basis, scheduling separate days between them. Even with a plethora of music between them, piecing together the two mixtapes for both artists still required new music.

For Brisco, recording music comes as second nature to him. As he enters the booth, he spits fire away showcasing his lyrical skill taking control of the beat. It comes to no surprise that the first single chosen for the release of the sequel to ‘O.G. Kush’ would be ‘Puff’ featuring another Poe Boy artist, JRandall. The Opa-Locka Goon continues to pace himself as he prepares the release of yet another mixtape ’21 Jump Street’ set for release within the first weeks of May.

Even with the recent release of ‘Blumanetti,’ that didn’t stop him from releasing more material for his fans, the storytelling lyrics behind each track gives you more insight on the life Billy Blue. The single chosen to be released in support of ‘Wake N Bake’ featured the talents of Miami veteran Hip-Hop artist Trick Daddy in the mellow track ‘I’ll Be Around,’ this I can safely say is a 2011 Miami anthem. With the assistance of DJ Smokey Bear and Big Chuck, you have yet another masterpiece from the North Miami native, Billy Blue.

Both mixtapes are preludes into the anticipated release of Poe Boy’s compilation mixtape, ‘Heart of the City featuring their Power 3, Brisco, Billy Blue, and Ghostwridah.

Here are the links to the reviews of both mixtapes:

Billy Blue – Wake N Bake

I’ve listened to both mixtapes as they bumped in my car, the music is definitely vintage Brisco and Billy Blue. The 20 tracks between the both of them provide separate tales from two different aspects of life. Check out the reviews on both them with the links up above.

Soulja Boy Weighs In on Interscope and 50 Cent

New York, NY – Collipark recording artist, Soulja Boy, has had a lot to say this past couple weeks. Due to poor record sales of his recent album ‘The Deandre Way,’ he puts much of the blame on Interscope for that. As for his rap career, he credits 50 Cent for continuing to push him forward.

All of this was spoken about during the recent interview with Complex magazine.

When it came down to his low record sales, he definitely had a lot to say:

“Honestly, I felt like that was one of the best albums in my career. But when the sales came, I just felt like that reflected something that was going on personally in my life. A lot of people don’t know that ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ went platinum and it was a Billboard Top 10 hit. I felt like I should have dropped my album at the peak of ‘Pretty Boy Swag.’ But I dropped the album so far after that. Because after that, ‘Blowing Me Kisses’ performed well and ‘Speakers Going Hammer’ was a hit, but it really didn’t do what ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ did.

I wanted to release my album on my birthday. But when you’re signed to a label like Interscope, they’ve got a million other artists dropping albums. If I could, I would go in there and say, ‘Hey, I need to ship a million copies on my birthday, July 28.’ I’ve got hit singles and platinum albums, but I can’t demand what day they put my album in stores. It just so happened that my date came to fall upon that winter, when it should have really been that summer.

Honestly, I shut down for a week [after my album dropped]. I wasn’t talking to nobody, I wasn’t talking to management, and I wasn’t talking to the label. I wasn’t picking up nobody’s calls. I went like that for a week. I was in a state of confusion. I needed answers. I was doing this concert in Hawaii for my fans and then I was in Hawaii for a week.

I wouldn’t have been able to go platinum first week anyway, because the label only shipped like 18,000 copies. So I wasn’t able to do gold first week or even 100k, none of that. They only put like 8,000 units in Best Buy. It was crazy. I didn’t know all of that though. I was just going off of, ‘My album’s going to be in stores, so I’m going to promote it as much as I can.’ I’m not the type of person to just be out like, ‘Hey, my label did this and I was in a situation with that.’ But I don’t want to get caught up in record-label-artist drama or nothing like that. I just want to keep everything cool to make music, that’s all.”

After all that, he still credited 50 Cent for continuing to push him more in his career:

“[I stopped Twittering when my sales came back because] I just needed to take a break. I needed to think about things. I needed to evaluate my camp and what was going on in my circle. I had to talk to my family, the label, and my management. I had a big talk with the big bruh 50 Cent. I’m going to forever thank 50 because he guided me. When I was at my lowest point in my career and I just felt like I ain’t really want to do this music no more. I was like, ‘Man, I’m still young. I made enough money.’ My head was on a whole different radar, but he was like, ‘Man, you tripping little bro. You’ve got to keep it going.’

He was like, ‘You’ve got to keep doing what you’re doing. You’re Soulja Boy, you’re here for a reason. Everybody’s not going platinum. Everybody didn’t do what you did. Everybody didn’t come in on the Internet. You’re the one that started the Internet. You’re the one that got me on the Internet. You’re the one that got us on blogs, on YouTube, and on Twitter.’ I was like, ‘Man, you know what? You’re right.’ He wasn’t doing nothing but speaking true knowledge to my head and it got me right back in the studio. So I ain’t going to never quit. I’m going to stay in this music industry. I’m going to stay making hits, and I’m going to do what I’ve got to do, and I thank 50. I really needed that at that time.”

At press time, Soulja Boy has got a lot going on for himself in the upcoming months as he was asked to play Pac’s role in the Juice remake and at the same time pushing his Stacks on Deck Money Gang label.

Soulja Boy always seems to find someone to blame for all his mishaps. Honestly, is it ever his fault? I guess it keeps him in the media, either way he still has the G-Unit mogul on his side, which tells you something, so why isn’t he signed to G-Unit? We can keep pondering that question.

[Video] Papoose Returns with New Mixtape Entitled ‘The 2nd Coming’

New York, NY – It’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything from the Brooklyn Emcee, for a moment there we thought he’d disappear into oblivion like the rest of the other artists that we grew up with. Apparently, that’s not the case. Papoose recently came out the woodwork after marrying fellow femcee Remy Ma and is now more than ready to release his new mixtape.

MTV News’ Mixtape Daily recently caught up with Pap at Gleason’s Boxer’s Gym in his hometown of Brooklyn. Pap went in on his upcoming new mixtape, number 24 if you ask him, and he points out that his wordsmith skills are still on point.

These were his comments:

“The reason why I called the mixtape The 2nd Coming is because when I first came in the scene, I shook the ground, I had the whole industry petrified, I took a million-plus,” referring to the reportedly million-dollar recording deal he signed with Jive Records back in 2006. “This time I’m coming back, it’s going to be even worse. Y’all know what I did before. See what I did; now, round two.”

Even with the epic record deal, the wordsmith has yet to even release his debut album entitled ‘The Nacirema Dream.’ According to Pap, he states that he was able to walk away from the Jive deal in 2007 with his money and his masters,  and even after some career mishaps, his album is still on its way. So before that comes around, his new mixtape ‘The Second Coming’ is hosted by his longtime supporter,  DJ Kay Slay with featured appearances from Busta Rhymes, Sheek Louch, Gudda Gudda, Karina Bradley, Raekwon and Tony Yayo as well as his Thugacation crew.

“I feel like I’m more mature now and I got a lot more to offer the game than what I had back then, so I’m glad my album didn’t come. Now with my album coming out, I think I’m well-prepared. This mixtape will really show a first-time listener what Hip-Hop represents.”

According to MTV’s Mixtape Daily these are the ‘joints to check for:’

“6 Foot 7 Freestyle.” “It’s just me in rare form, going in, doing what I’m doing,” Papoose explained. “The beat is inspirational. It’s just one of them beats that make you say, ‘Damn, I want to rap on that beat.’ I think it’s an inspirational track, so I had to hop on it and show ’em what I’m bringing to the table.”

“I Don’t Eat No Ham.” “You know, Jay-Z and Kanye had the record ‘I’m about to go H.A.M.,’ but you know me, I got knowledge of self, I don’t eat no ham. So that title is ‘No Ham,’ I’m going in.”

“Last Man Standing.” “The Gudda Gudda collab happened through a mutual friend,” Papoose explained. “Basically he reached out to me and told me Gudda respect what I’m doing, I let him know vice versa, I respect his music. Me and Gudda got on the phone, chopped it up, and we came out with the joint. Shout out to the whole Young Money on that. We just basically expressing what it feels like to be the last man standing. The cats who came up with me they not here no more or either they crossed over and doing something totally wack. I feel like I’m the last man standing that represent that real hardcore lyrical Hip-Hop.”

Pap has always been lyrical with his music; I mean he’s always been able to go in on any beat with some pivotal verses. Watch the Video located at the bottom and listen to some of the audio, Pap is back. Review coming soon!
