Shyne Releasing New Single Entitled ‘Messiah’
Belize City, BZ – The former Bad Boy artist has been out of the loop for a minute now and ever since his release from prison, Shyne was quickly deported back to his country of origin. The last time we heard any music from Shyne, the people at Def Jam bought the rights from Bad Boy and released ‘Godfather Buried Alive.’ Six years later and a new contract under Def Jam Recordings, Shyne has returned with some new material for the world to hear and his single to his upcoming album, already entitled ‘Guess Who,’ will be released sometime tomorrow (April 13). The soon to be released track has been distinguishably entitled ‘Messiah.’ Shyne is literally on the path to restarting his music career from Belize.
According to reports, during a press conference in November of 09, he spoke on the reasoning behind his music.
These were his comments to the media in Belize City:
“I make music about life. One of the greatest musicians was Bob Marley. There was nothing misogynistic about him. But his music, he talked about some harsh realities sometimes. He was tough. I would like to make that type of contribution, that kind of Marvin Gaye contribution, you dig? But at the same time, we curse. At the same time, life is violent. Life is troublesome sometimes. So don’t expect my music to be sanitized. I am just going to talk about what’s going on in the world.”
It goes without saying that prison has changed Shyne to an extent, but according to him, he states that he hasn’t gotten softer, he’s gotten wiser. Proof can be heard in his lyrics to the upcoming single ‘Messiah:’
“I got the city on my back, pretty women in the sack. Rollin’ in the Rolls/ Sit, sittin’ in my lap/ This is not a rap, fool, this is not an act/ Welcome to New York, blood, this is where it’s at/ Snitches take a nap with the fishes and the rats/ Buried in the dirt where the witnesses is at.”
And as the chorus continues on, this is how it plays:
“This one is a go, but r-r-really though/ If you know the code, then y-y-you could roll/ But if you was a foe, then you get peter-rolled/ But keep that on the low, r-r-really though.”
At press time, it has yet to be confirmed whether ‘Messiah’ will be an official single or a buzz single for the upcoming album that has yet to receive a scheduled date either. As of now, Def Jam is looking for a Summer 2010 release of Shyne’s 3rd official studio album.
On the real, I’ve been listening to Shyne since High School and his music has always been bangers. It wasn’t the fact that he sounded similar to Biggie that caught my attention, more or less his lyricism. Shyne is seriously a lyricist and with his return, Hip-Hop has another one up in this serious drought.
Drake Discusses Video to Hit Single ‘Over’
The Toronto MC has been on his grind for literally the past year. We’ve watched as Drake became an all-star artist over a short period of time to the point where his features surpass his own solo catalog and even now he still being sought out to provide either a 16 or even a hook.
Drake recently taped the video to his first single ‘Over’ and premiered this earlier this morning to his patient fans. MTV News spoke to Drake in March during the recording of the video and received an explanation into what the video would be about.
These were his comments:
“This is my first video. I’ve shot a lot of videos before, but this is my first attempt to establish myself as Drake the artist. Shooting the other videos I’ve done has been great. I really don’t care what other people think about them, they were great experiences for me. I’ve learned a lot from them. Today, I’m shooting with somebody I really look up to and respect. I’m shooting with Anthony Mandler.
We talked colors, we talked epic, emotion-evoking visuals. The story is actually interesting. The song is so aggressive, and it’s sort of a love story in the video. It has a lot to do with the album [Thank Me Later]. The album is about finding love, feeling, ‘Have I sold my soul?’ as far as, ‘Will I ever be able to gain the trust of a woman? Will I only be able to be around the dark, evil women? Will I ever find that pure love?’ Those elements are in the video. I look strong, I feel great, and my knee’s feeling great. I’m jumping around, doing all kinds of stuff.”
Last week during the launch of his ‘Away from Home’ tour, he amended additional comments about the video that he just premiered:
“It takes the song to another place, it offers up a whole different look for the song. The song — to a lot of people — is ignorant, it’s club. This video is what I was really thinking about. The song is like a bad dream — but it’s not a bad dream, it’s not a terrible dream. It’s a little evil. The video really reflects that. It’s a struggle between the purities of my past life and what this new life has to offer. Even in the video, you see me looking back and forth between the two and deciding. At the end of the video I don’t necessarily make a decision, but when you get the album, you’ll see what choice I make.”
At press time, Drake’s debut studio album has been slated to be released by Young Money/Cash Money under distribution by Universal Motown officially (unless otherwise noted) on June 15, 2010.
It’s interesting how at one point in time, Lil Wayne was the only artist making a name of himself under Cash Money, then years later Wayne launches Young Money and introduces new artists into the game that eventually carried on their own making a name for themselves. Now we got Drake and Nicki Minaj literally becoming international stars in just a year’s time. Brisco is even on the verge of releasing his ‘Street Medicine’ really soon. Cash Money is back on top again like they were in the late 90s and early 2000s.
