Jay-Z Featured in GQ’s Men of the Year Issue, Discusses Fatherhood

For as long as we’ve known Jay-Z, the artist, the entrepreneur, the businessman, the mogul, and now a father, it seems as though he has conquered everything in his lifetime except fatherhood. With the all the news swarming all over the media about the upcoming child from the couple, it apparently has been the topic of everyone’s conversations, including media headlines. With all that being said, interestingly enough, Hov just landed the cover story in GQ.

In the upcoming December issue of GQ, Jay-Z has been featured as part of their Men of the Year segment. Now with all the music and business aside, GQ instead inquired about being a father.

“Providing — that's not love," Jay says. "Being there — that's more important. I mean, we see that. We see that with all these rich socialites. They're crying out for attention; they're hurting for love. I'm not being judgmental — I'm just making an observation," Jay, who was anointed the mag's King of the Year, tells writer Alex Pappademas. "They're crying out for the love that maybe they didn't get at home, and they got everything, all the material things that they need and want. So we know that's not the key.”

And dealing with his own issues of growing up without a father that he has mentioned in countless songs throughout his career, he does state that he promises to there for his child unlike his father was for him. Even in his latest duo album with Kanye West, he states, in lyrical form, his promises to be there on the RZA produced track ‘New Day:’

“Promise to never leave him, even if his mama tweakin'/ 'Cause my dad left me and left me and I promise to never repeat him.”

So question remains if Hov will ‘lose my swag’ now that he is a father to be, he does admit that he will change diapers and strap the baby seat in the Maybach, he also promises to play Hip-Hop classics for his child such as: ‘Reasonable Doubt,’ ‘Ready to Die,’ and even ‘Illmatic,’ when the time comes.

At press time, the December issue of GQ will hit newsstands nationwide on November 22.

Keep posted to 24hourhiphop.com for more news on Jay-Z.

Better late than never, if Jay was to be a father I guess now would have been a good time or not at all, cause he is getting old. I find it interesting that GQ asked if he were to lose his swag after becoming father, honestly I would asked the same question. I know, I am definitely picking up that issue of GQ when it’s released.
