The 2011 BET Awards Recap
Los Angeles, CA – Talk about an amazing night, the BET Awards aired last night from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles all hosted by the talented Kevin Hart. The entire auditorium was packed with black star power from all across the industry, entertainers who have impacted the African American entertainment field from movies to music. Chris Brown set the toll extremely high at last year’s awards giving his emotional, yet amazing performance during his Michael Jackson tribute, many fans were wondering how this year’s big moments will unfold. All in all, between the honored winners that were most deserving, the highlights of the show were in the performances and it seems as though Ross, Wayne, and Khaled spent a lot of time on stage as they were relevant throughout the year so far.
Kevin Harts even provided his own comic antics throughout the segment giving chuckles left and right from the audience; his comic skits were actually on point. There was even an awkward moment during the presentation Viewer’s Choice of award when 106 & Park hosts Terrence J and Rosci presented the award to Drake for his collaboration with Rihanna on “What’s My Name,” only after the contest winner Tiffany Green accidentally announced Chris Brown as the winner at first. Drake accepted the award stating ‘Well that was strange.’ In the end, they clarified the winner to be Chris Brown.
And just as Steve Harvey was emotional accepting his well-deserved Humanitarian Award alongside Patti LaBelle finally receiving her long overdue Lifetime Achievement Award, BET’s coverage of our departed musicians was quite honorable and more emotional, especially with Warren G and Snoop’s ‘Regulate’ tribute to the legendary Nate Dogg.
In the end, 2011 marks Chris Brown’s comeback year and honestly, I think everyone agrees. Congratulations to C Breezy for winning the Viewer’s Choice award, another well deserved recipient. Brown did win big tonight and I know it surprised many people, not to mention he also won the award for Best Male R&B Artist and Best Collaboration.
