The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards
Los Angeles, CA – Quite possibly the biggest award show in music history, literally the Oscars of music, was aired last night (January 31) live from Los Angeles to an audience of millions. The Staples Center was packed with celebrities and musicians from all over the industry representing different musical genres. The Grammy committee has always been able to come up with the greatest ideas in providing the best show in an effort of trying to top their show from the year before.
The live performances this year were amazing right down to the incredible Michael Jackson Tribute that was given by talented artists from different genres. Alongside that, the Grammy’s also provided Hip-Hop a respectable servitude with the performances that they lined up for the show, this is literally the first time we saw Eminem and Lil Wayne on the same stage. And definitely a major congrats goes out to Beyonce for winning 6 awards breaking the record of most wins by a female artist in one night. Taylor Swift followed right behind her with 4 wins.
The tribute to Michael Jackson can only be summed up in one word, phenomenal. Artists chosen to perform during the tribute included: Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, and Smokey Robinson. The Grammy committee was able to secure the 3D mini movie that was designed originally for ‘This Is It’ for the track ‘Earth Song.’ The piece was seen for the first time at the Grammy’s. The artists performed the famous track during the airing of the 3D segment with the audience wearing 3D glasses. And just like the slogan for this year’s Grammy’s ‘We’re All Fans,’ everyone in that building, around the world, artist or not, was a major fan of the music and works of the King of Pop Michael Jackson. After the performance, the Recording Academy awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award to the late great Michael Jackson. His children Prince and Paris Jackson accepted the award in their father’s honor.
Many Grammy Award shows have always provided excellent performances from artists with mega hits of that year. We’ve seen the best grace the Grammy stage performing songs that will eventually go down in history. 2010 Grammy’s gave us yet another. For the first time, Eminem and Lil Wayne performed on the same stage together twice as a matter of fact with two records both under the Young Money camp, ‘Drop the World’ off of the Wayne’s pushed back ‘Rebirth’ album and Forever off of Drake’s debut album and the Lebron James documentary. Lil Wayne stormed on stage providing his lyrically flare while Eminem came on stage calmly before transitioning into a vicious flow. Celebrity drummer Travis Barker also made a cameo appearance playing his drums through both records as Drake stepped onto the stage. Hip-Hop was on top of its game at the Grammy’s this year.

Congratulations to every artist and band that won a Grammy for 2010. It was evident that both Eminem and Jay-Z would dominate the entire Rap section, as they were relevant throughout much of 2009.
Drake Discusses Debut Album & Possible Second Eminem Collaboration
Los Angeles, CA – Drake is another artist that had a fantastic year in 2009 practically being the most sought out artist for a feature, let alone pushing his own singles. At this year’s Grammy’s, the Young Money signee was dominated for two awards even without an album under his belt as yet, however seemed to be carrying his own quite well. Drake performed his own hit single ‘Forever’ alongside heavyweights Eminem and Lil Wayne.
Before the show, during the red carpet of Grammy’s, MTV News caught up with Drake and briefly interviewed him with some relevant questions. It is quite obvious that his debut album will not see the light of day any time soon since we are already in February, but when questioned if the album was complete, these were his comments:
“Not yet. I got a couple more things.”
His record ‘Forever’ is a blazing hit all across the industry, when MTV asked him the structure behind the song and his thoughts on it being nominated, this was his answer:
“That song is a real honest song, it connected with a lot of women — my moms likes it. For it to be Grammy-nominated is an honor, man. It’s always good when the words in your music are something that you live by and you get to hear it every day on the radio and you’re not ashamed of it.”
When questioned about a follow up or second collaboration with Eminem, this is what he said:
“Me and Em talked about something today. We might need that to happen.”
At press time, Drake was beat out by Jay-Z on both nominated awards. His debut album ‘Thank Me Later’ has been re-scheduled to be released sometime in March of this year.
I’m actually looking forward to hearing their next collaboration, it seems promising. Lately everything that Eminem has featured on, he’s literally killed. Let’s see what’s next on the plate for Drake and Eminem.
