ABC is reportedly developing a new television drama series titled “Limelight,” partially inspired by Pharrell Williams of the production duo The Neptunes.

According to Daily Variety, “Limelight” will be an
hour-long series that centers on students and faculty at a New York
performing arts school. Pharrell, who attended an arts school in
Virginia, will serve as a consulting producer for the show.

“This project reminded me a lot of my own life growing up,” the
producer said. “Coming from a different environment where we stuck out
for having abilities that we later learned, after attending a school
like this, were actually gifts and talents. The moral DNA for this
project is that it’s OK to dream, but to bring it to fruition requires
hard work.”

“Pharrell is the ultimate embodiment of credibility in this space,” said ‘Limelight’ producer McG, also responsible for the new TV series “Chuck.” “He attended a performing arts high school and went on to become the most prolific producer of our generation.”

ABC managed to bag “Limelight” after an intense bidding war that involved the CW, Fox and various other networks. The series faces a “substantial, mid-six-figure penalty” if it does not move forward.

Pharrell recently produced “Blue Magic,” the first single off of Jay-Z‘s upcoming concept album titled American Gangster, due in stores in November.
