Pirate radio has been a major force in Miami radio, breaking some of South Florida’s most accomplished artists from the early 80’s to presnt day. Desipite being extremely regulated by the FCC, underground radio has been able to be survive the tests of time. Some of the city’s most popular stations, such as 97.7 FM and 89.1 FM, have been a mainstay in the communities promoting concerts and events, such as Uncle Al’s Peac ein the Hood Festival and the Goombay Festival. Pirate radio is and always has been a important factor in Miami’s music culture creating an outlet for new artist to be able to have their views and opinions heard.
