Plies Discusses New Single ‘Plenty Money’

New York, NY – Plies has been known to release hits ever since his debut album dropped back in 2007. It never fails when each individual single is released either street or mainstream; fans seem to react to the record quite well. And ever since that debut, every single spawned since has featured an R&B superstar up until now. ‘Plenty Money’ has been circulating within the streets for quite some time now and fans seem to be taking a liking towards it. That record will be his third official single from his most recent album ‘Da Realist.’

Plies recently spoke with MTV News concerning his reason for releasing the track into the mainstream rather than continue it as a street single. These were his comments about the record that is gaining wide national attention:

“I can honestly say that song is the biggest street song in my career. In my opinion, I’ve had a shitload of successful street records, whether it be ‘I Am the Club’ or ‘Goons Lurking,’ ‘I’m the Man.’ I’ve had my share of big street records. I’ve been a part of big street records as well, but it’s nothing compared to this ‘Plenty Money.’”

The title of the hit street record does speak for itself. ‘Plenty Money’ blatantly expresses his comfortable financial status, however MTV News inquired about the idea behind the song knowingly that we are in an economic decline. This was his answer to that:

You need to feel like [you have plenty of money], bruh. Regardless of how bad it is, you need to feel better, man. The people that ain’t got no money now, it was the same people who didn’t have money four years ago. Now it’s justifiable not to have money. In terms of the street perspective, it isn’t as much money circulating in the streets as it once was. But in terms of our [national] economy, the recession was a scapegoat for corporate America, who can file bankruptcy now and re-create a whole ‘nother company, debt-free. The people who are struggling now, been struggling. Anytime you can create music and give hope, anytime you can make a person feel good … that record makes you feel good whether you hear it at 10 in the morning or 3 in the morning in the club. It makes you feel good.

The first time I saw that record work, that shit scared the fuck out of me. It was probably a couple of thousand people there. Sold out. I didn’t do that record first, I did that record third or fourth on my set. I came out to ‘Me and My Goons.’ That muthafucka is almost equivalent to ‘Plenty Money,’ but “Plenty Money,’ anytime they hear the first two seconds of that muthafucka, it’s a problem.”

Plies continues to add that with all the singles that he has released throughout his prosperous career, this is possibly the one that completes the puzzle. This record will mark the first we hear him on the verses and the hook:

“I played it on the bus [when I first made it] for my staff and told them, ‘This is the record right here.’ I didn’t know it was gonna be on this level, but I felt good about the record. That’s the record, bruh, that you can’t hide from. Probably one of the biggest elements missing from me is that piece of the puzzle that takes me right into my fourth project. From a radio standpoint, I have had the pleasure of having two #1’s, three top-five records. How can you get tired of hearing what works? But I think this record completes the puzzle I needed a street record that’s all of me — and now it will bring in my world that only knows ‘Bust It Baby,’ ‘Shawty,’ ‘Want It, Need It.’ This is the piece I’ve been missing that’ll take me into my fourth project.”

At press time, the video has been taped for his official third single and will be released soon. His fourth album is still in production looking for a late summer, early fall release. Keep posted to 24hourhiphop.com for the latest.

Rihanna Returns to the Stage in Dubai

New York, NY – Def Jam’s R&B starlet has been on hiatus from the scene and the stage after the incident that occurred with Chris Brown back in early February. Before Rihanna was to return to the stage, the label gave her time to recover immensely from her bruises. Recently, she was seen in her home island of Barbados with her family celebrating her grandparents’ 50th anniversary.

Apparently, reports have been surfacing across media outlets that Rihanna’s first performance will be overseas in the rich middle-eastern country of Dubai. This will be a concert to mark her return to the stage. A spokeswoman for the Dubai Department of Tourism, Mary Rachelle Cherpak, recently spoke to MTV News about the unconfirmed Rihanna performance in Dubai. These were her comments:

“Rihanna will be performing on May 28. The tickets have not gone on sale, but will do so in the next two weeks. If everything comes together it will be a concert for 25,000 audience members. This is another example of how Dubai tourism is attracting the best of the best and is one of the world’s hottest destinations. It has received tremendous publicity in Dubai the last few days and has generated buzz.”

At press time, the concert has yet to be confirmed, however it is something the Tourism Department in Dubai is looking forward to putting together. Keep posted to 24hourhiphop.com for more information into Rihanna’s first concert in Dubai.
