We all were a little surprised when R. Kelly walked away scot-free on his recent child pornography charge. I mean we all have seen the tape. Anyway many people were upset at the verdict and a group of well known and respected black businessman and entrepreneurs have come together to start a ban on R. Kelly and his music. Kevin Powell among others including William Jelani Cobb, an associate professor of history at Spelman College have started a petition that all men are allowed to sign to try to stop R. Kelly in the music business. “This is about more than R. Kelly’s claims to innocence. It is about our survival as a community.” Cobb said explaining the idea behind the petition, that the verdict reflected badly on the black race as a whole. “We wanted to make it clear that there were Black men who were strongly opposed to how the case played out,’’ Cobb said to the media. The two say they are trying to get the petition to work its way through the music industry but that will never happen I’m sure as Kelly’s phone is sure to be ringing right now with people who need songs and hooks from him. Would you sign the R. Kelly petition?
