For now, rapper Rick Ross has set aside all of the beefing and decided to get involved with Haiti relief efforts by hosting a blood drive. The Community Blood Centers and 24 Hour Fitness will team together with Ross in an effort to collect blood to send to the victims of Port-au-Prince. According to several reports, there have been an estimated 100,000 people who succumbed to the massive 7.0 earthquake while millions were injured, wounded, and in need of desperate medical attention.

“We have to come together to assist Haiti in anyway possible,” Rick Ross told AllHipHop.com. “Give blood, donate what you can and remember the relief efforts for Haiti need to be long term.”

It’s great to see Hip-Hop stepping up for Haiti. Such a beautiful thing!

Monique Wins Golden Globe Award for “Precious”

Comedienne/Actress Monique recently won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture  for the movie “Precious.” However,  Monique’s Golden Globe victory wasn’t only a victory for her, but for the many children who are victims of child abuse. Monique says that her winning the Golden Globe will raise more awareness to the prevalence of child abuse.

“I think for so long we have swept it under the carpet.  For so long, when it is time to deal with that issue, and when it is time to deal with molestation inside the home, we walk away from it and we don’t address it,” she said backstage. “So, oftentimes we live [with] those demons and are not really dealing with it.  So we continue to have a damaged life, and it is time to stop that.  It is time for us to heal and be survivors and no longer be victims.”

It’s definitely good that child abuse is pushed to the forefront instead of hidden away and never discussed. “Precious” could save someone’s life.  Kudos to you Monique!

Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” Wins Top Song of the Decade

Now Mariah Carey has a reason to get tipsy! Recently her 2005 hit single, “We Belong Together” was named the top song of the decade. Producer Jermaine Dupri recently discussed the single that he produced and co-wrote with Mariah and revealed that he had no idea where the record would actually go.

“This was part of a second batch of songs we worked on when she did come back,” he said in an interview. “We wrote it together. Most of the time when I make records with Mariah, I basically write them while she’s there in the studio. She’s a super-prolific writer. And that’s how we’ve always collaborated. She gives me the vibe for the kind of record she’s looking for, then we start playing different chords and keys to see where we’re headed. There are people who think she’s singing as hard as she ever did, because they hadn’t heard her like that in a long time…I’m really speechless that the song was able to connect to so many different people. My style of production does not sound like pop music when you first hear it. Fortunately, they end up going that way. I had no idea what it was going to do; I just knew it was a good Mariah record. In my mind, it doesn’t sound like the song of the decade–it’s too different. It doesn’t sound like anything else.”

I think “We Belong Together” was everybody’s cut in 2005. First “Precious” now Song of the Decade? Mariah is definitely doing big things! Look out for her new album Angels Advocates set for release in March 2010. Good luck Mariah!
