VH1 will air “The 10th Annual Lady of Soul Awards,” “The 8th Annual Soul Train Christmas Starfest” and “The 20th Annual Soul Train Music Awards” to households both in the U.S. and the UK. The agreement gives VH1the rights to air the specials after their initial syndication across various VH1 channels including VH1, VH1 Classic, VH1 Soul and VH1 UK.

“VH1 has been looking to work with [“Soul Train” creator] Don Cornelius and ‘Soul Train’ for ages,” said Ben Zurier, Senior Vice President, programming strategy for VH1 via a statement. “‘Soul Train’ is a premium brand in the worlds of R&B, Hip Hop, and Soul, and its expertise in what’s hot today and what we love from the past is a perfect fit with what we do at VH1.”

“The 10th Annual Lady of Soul Awards,” the first up of the three specials, will air on October 15th at 9pm and will be hosted by Toni Braxton, Brian McKnight and multiple Lady of Soul Award nominee Ciara.

The partnership will allow “Soul Train” to continually broaden its audience by using VH1’s successful strategy of connecting viewers with music. VH1 is available in over 87 million households domestically.

“Soul Train,” the longest running music oriented program in American television history, celebrates its 34th consecutive on air season this fall and has hosted music icons such as Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey, among others.
